What are some lighthouses that are worth driving to so you can walk and climb the stairs.......I love lighthouses and enjoy climbing the steps to see the beauty from the top. We already have been to the picturesque Bass Harbor lighthouse.

First-time to NYC Trip Report as promised!

There is one in St Augustine, FL as I was there last Thanksgiving.
I believe OP is looking for lighthouses in Maine.

We went to Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse and it is open to visitors. We went to Owl's Head too, but it is closed to visitors.
Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, depicted on the Maine State Quarter, is open to visitors Memorial Day through Columbus Day.

As with any lighthouse, you might want to call before you drive out to it, as the website warns that it can be closed if there is rain or no volunteers are available to staff it on a given day.
you could drive to Florida if you wanted (but I wouldn't just for a lighthouse)
A couple of my favs are:
Long Beach Island, NJ - Old Barney
OBX - Hatteras Lighthouse (they actually moved it back from the ocean. Moved it like the space shuttle). Also Corolla Lighthouse.
In Nantucket, they moved the Sankaty Head light back from the eroding cliff a couple of years ago, but you can't go up in it.
The Great Point light was completely rebuilt, thanks to Ted Kennedy, after the original collapsed in a storm in the late 1970's. It is normally locked, but you can go up in it as part of the Great Point 4WD tour operated by the Trustees of Reservations, who own Great Point.
Great Point also used to be a wonderful place to fish and picnic, but like a growing number of places on both coasts, it is being ruined by explosive growth in the seal population. Apparently the same laws that protect whales (good) also protect other marine mammals, who don't need protecting.
Not to hijack this thread but seals used to arrive here just after Halloween and were mostly gone by the end of April. They apparently haven't heard about global warming because they are leaving the cold northern waters in droves and settling here.
Last year, Great White Sharks started showing up on the Cape and here, nature's method of seal control, so the population will eventually stabilize, but there may be unintended consequences along the way!
