I was planning on taking the airporter from The Port Authority.

But if I decide on a taxi instead, about what would the fare be? Or is there another/better option?

Unfortunately, there is a convoluted route by public transportation to LGA.

You may prefer a car service to trying to find a taxi in potentially bad weather. If you look at web sites of Dial 7 or carmel you will find discounts for airport trips. Just remember that the qupted fare is plus toll and 20% tip (of fare, but not toll).

If you don't have much luggage and want to use public transportation, from Times Square, you could take the N train to Astoria Blvd and transfer to the M 60 bus to LGA.

There's a toll for the tunnel going from Manhaattan TO LGA? Just asking, but that seemed surprising since I know there are no tolls outbound for the Holland or Lincoln tunnels.

Yes, you have to pay each way for the Queens-Midtown Tunnel. Same for the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel.

Interesting. I never knew that and didn't remember paying at Midtown Tunnel when I was driving -- not that I remember everything.

I guess they figure people only won't be willing to pay going to New Jersey? LOL

There is a toll for both directions for the Queens Mid-Town Tunnel. There are limited ways to cross the Hudson with a car from NY to NJ. In order to get across the Hudson for free you have to go about 90 miles north. Thus they can control how and where you pay a toll to cross the Hudson, unless you are Chris Christie. But there are numerous free ways to cross the East River and the Harlem River for free, thus they must charge for use of the tunnels.

The public transport options suck.

Take a cab - it'll be around 40 bucks. Dial 7 is also good - they're dependable.

Just so you know the N and the M30 are not designed for airport travel. Just for locals going wherever - so no place for luggage, need to stand in Manhattan and at rush hours and can take forevver (1.5 hours not uncommon depending on connections).

Thanks everyone. I think I'll probably just take a cab, but might book Dial7 or Carmel after I'm at the hotel.

OK- I've had two glasses of wine and am sitting in the arena lounge before a Kings game . . . But I didn't understand 90% of that link . . . Maybe in the cold light of day tomorrow and no wine in my system it will make sense.
