LEELANAU & PETOSKEY LODGINGS
What are some nice places to stay in Leelanau & Petoskey? Something by the water would be great & we're looking to visit some wineries. Just taking a week off to do some exploring & relax. Thanks for any suggestions!

This mainly topping. Though I love that area, I stay overnight too seldom, and it has been several years.
One of the coolest places in the Leelanau Pennisula was the Falling Waters Lodge in Leland. It has been way too many years since I was there, for me to recomend it, but you might investigate.

I haven't stayed at the Perry Hotel in Petoskey since my wedding night 10 years ago, but it was nice then, and I haven't heard any indication that it's changed for the worse. It's an excellent location - just a short walk under the highway to the waterfront park and access to the paved trail that goes as far as Harbor Springs in one direction and Charlevoix in the other, plus it's right downtown, so you have access to shopping and restaurants by foot. If you're there on a night when he's playing (whether you're staying there or not), check out Sean Ryan in the Noggin' Room downstairs. Excellent and hilarious local musician!
The Bay View Inn (owned by Stafford's, who also own the Perry) is right on the water in Bay View, a small Methodist community on the north side of Petoskey. I'm not sure that it's right on a beach, but you can at least walk out to the water there. From there you'd have to drive to most other Petoskey locations that might interest you, though.

We stayed at the Whaleback inn, which is very close to Leland. It overlooks the bay, but no beach area to sit.
The rooms were very comfortable, with lots of space. Breakfast is included in the price. Their website is www.whalebackinn
