Leaving for Hawaii in a week :) :) - Would love packing tips of types of clothing to wear... especially for sunrise bikeride

We finally leave for Hawaii a week from Monday and are SO excited!!!!

I'm working on my packing list and was wondering if someone could review the types of clothes they would bring for a 2 week trip (hopefully doing laundry mid-way through at our B&B). We will be doing the following:

Snorkeling
Mauna Kea Summit and Stars Tour
Sunrise Bikeride
Luau

Obviously we'll need bathing suits - but I'm wondering what type of clothing we'd be most comfortable in day to day. Is it mostly shorts and t-shirts type weather? Do people dress up for the luau? And just how warmly should we plan to dress for the Mauna Kea and bikeride?

THANKS!

Shorts and tee shirt is fine 99.99% of the time.

Luau? Well anything really will do. Since it's tourist oriented, most will be wearing some type of aloha wear, but shorts would still be fine.

Will be in 30-40 on Mauna Kea, colder maybe. Most tour operators will provide you with some warm outer wear, but dress warm anyway.

The trips into the mountains will be COLD - and it feels worse because you'll have been used to nice, warm weather.

Wear a dark sweatshirt on the plane, and pack a light raincoat; you can use them together for the mountain trips. Zip-off pants work well, although some styles can rub your knees when biking. Or, if you own them, pack a pair of running tights for the biking and mountain trips. Bring an extra pair of socks to use as mittens. You might also want to bring a tight-fitting hat because you really will feel the cold.

For the rest of the time, just bring lots of shorts and more than one bathing suit. T-shirts and aloha shirts are sold everywhere and make great souveniers. Women will want a nice skirt or sundress for going out; guys don't need anything dressier than khakis and a polo or aloha shirt.

The tour operator for the stargazing trip will supply you with a parka and gloves. On the bike trip, be sure to wear layers as you'll start out ice cold and, by the end, be back in the tropical weather you'll have become accustomed to. It's been a number of years since I did the sunrise bike trip, but I seem to remember the bike company supplying a parka and gloves for the start-out portion. Check with the company you're signed with to be sure.

You should check with the bike company with whom you are booked. In my experience they provide you with wind/rain suits and a helmut, but not a parka of any sort. I normally wear yoga pants and a hoodie over shorts and a loose, long sleeve t, over a swim suit, cause, well, I always keep a suit nearby because you never know when you will need to take a quick swim. We use our own fingerless riding gloves. I loose the rain suit once the sun has risen, and eventually the hoodie but I do keep the yoga pants and the shirt as protection for the entire ride. Even a mild tumble can leave you with road rash for the remainder of your trip, which would basically suck.

Plan on either wearing a swim suit under your clothes, or keeping one handy in your daypack or inthe car. We just keep a suit and beach mats in each of our cars, because sometimes you get the urge to take a quick swim.

An extra pair of socks to use as mittens!!
That's a good one!! Why not just pack a pair of mittens instead of an extra pair of socks ?

Cause you'll look stupid wearing mittens on your feet on the plane ride home!
