le parker meridien??

We are staying in the parker meridien on our trip to NY. The reviews about this hotel are not really positive. Could someone tell us their own experience with this hotel? Otherwise we will cancel it, it is a lot of money!

When we're staying overnight with our now 11-year-old son, it's our hotel of choice. We've stayed there half a dozen times and always had a good experience. The junior suite gives him -- and us -- a measure of privacy. We've found the staff courteous and helpful. The attitude sleek but fun. The food at Norma's and the Burger Joint yummy. The location a great for going uptown one day and downtown the next.

My husband picked Le Parker Meridan for our anniversary about 5 years ago. What can I say.... there was nothing wrong with it per se but I did think the room was small and not particularly gorgeous for the money... it was pretty expensive ( DH ordered room service coffee one day...$25 for a pot of coffee!) and just did not feel all that special . However, I have not had lots of recent experience with NY hotels so in comparison it might be fine.. I think the location was pretty good.

We've stayed at Le Parker Meridien many times. Our rooms were always huge, much larger than those in any other NYC hotel where we've stayed. Twice we were upgraded to rooms on higher floors with views, once toward Central Park, the other time towards Midtown - magnificent views.

We've found the service throughout the hotel just fine. Breakfast at Norma's within the hotel is incredible (though pricey). The hotel is nicely located as well.

This is also my hotel of choice in New York. I have stayed there several times and find the rooms and beds very comfortable and stylish. There is a great health club and a wonderful rooftop swimming pool. Pools are rare in New York hotels.

Norma's, as others have said, is very pricey, but worth it at least once for the breakfast experience. (Just watch out for that fresh orange juice they come around with in pitchers, it's really expensive, which you only find out when you get the check.)

I have gotten good rates on Quikbook and occasionally on the hotel's website. If there is no good rate when you check, keep checking, the rates may change.

The LPM's website photos of the rooms and such are very explicit. It's clear that these are very standard sized rooms (probably 220-250 sq ft) and that the furnishings are quite basic, as in functional and not ornate or luxury-oriented.
It's not what I'd look for in a special occasion hotel, for an anniversary, etc.
But if you get a good room rate (LPM often shows up on the bid sites) the location is good and there's not much to lose.
But don't go there expecting to be pampered like it's the Four Seasons.
You get what you pay for in most cases.

Have read on your other post you'll be here 12/29-1/5. That's an expensive time in NYC. Also read you guys are young (27-34). You might prefer someplace a bit hipper/trendier-location wise. While LPM is in a good location for shopping/theater/midtown sights, it's not a young, hip place. It does have an indoor swimming pool if that interests you. Otherwise, if this hotel is cancelleable, try looking at the W Union Square, the Chambers or maybe even the Soho Grand downtown.
