What's the best way to get to and from ? Going on a bike tour in June, arriving around 1pm on a Thursday to LAX then off to SBA for a 1 night stay. Then on a bike tour for 3 days and returning ito Santa Barbara for 2 nights before heading back to LAX. My main concern is returning on Tuesday for an afternoon (2:45p) flight to LAX.

rental car from and to LAX
there is an airport service from SB to LAX
bus LAX to SB too
We almost always use a shuttle service to and from LAX to our home in Thousand Oaks, which is about half way to Santa Barbara. We have had very good experiences with Roadrunner Shuttle, which is based in Ventura County, and they do serve Santa Barbara. See:
http://www.rrshuttle.com/lax.html
Of course you will need to inquire about they would accomodate your bike, if you are bringing it with you.
In your last sentence, did you mean flight FROM LAX? If your concern is assuring that you will make it on time, Roadrunner will just ask you for your flight number and then will tell you what time they will pick you up to get you there on time. They know traffic well in this area. Leaving in mid-afternoon as you are, rush hour traffic should not be a big factor.
Another choice:

They have several buses going daily to LAX. Leave Santa Barbara at 8:30a and you're scheduled to get to LAX by 11:15. Even if you hit horrendous traffic (and you might), you'll still have plenty of time to make your 2:45p flight out of LAX (which is what I presume you were asking about).
Your bike tour from and back to Santa Barbara -- are you renting a bike in SB for three days? Or are you bringing your own bike on the flight? If the latter, loading is simple: if you can get it on the plane, then you can get it on the bus.
Thanks for the help. dbdurand, my flight is from LAX! Have no bike, doing a Backroads trip using their equipment. Have checked out sbairbus, will look into rrshuttle. Not renting a car because it won't be used except to go to and from lax/sba.
