Last minute weekend trip to Cleveland - any tips?

DH and I are headed to Cleveland, very last minute. Leave early Saturday morning, and return Monday morning. We are staying at the Hyatt, we will not have a car. We plan to spend Saturday at the Rock Hall of Fame, and maybe take in an Indians game (they are home against Detroit) on Sunday. Any recommendations for restaurants, jazz clubs is greatly appreciated, or any other things of interest. We are completely open to any and all interesting ideas. thanks

1) At the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame please ask them why they have not inducted the Moody Blues.

2) At no time, utter these two words... LeBron James.

Yeah!! Welcome in advance to Cleveland. The new happening place downtown is East 4th Street. There you'll find some great restaurants like Lola (Michael Symon's amazing place) and a bunch of other new restaurants. Pickwick and Frolic is a great place for dinner, stand-up comedy and other entertainment. The House of Blues is right there, as well. There's also a great little sandwich shop called Presto's that I highly recommend. You can also jump in a cab and head over to Little Italy to check out one of the great local Italian restaurants. Our Great Lakes Science Center is right near the Rock Hall, that might interest you. The local Cleveland Scene magazine (www.clevescene.com) will give you info on the local music scene. Make sure you check out the West Side market right across the river from Progressive Field on West 25th. It's amazing! You can then stop at the Souper Market for lunch (they have great summer chilled soups) or head over to the Great Lakes Brewery on Market Street. Let me know if you need more information! Hope you enjoy your stay!

Kellbell - thanks for the suggestions. I looked at Lola and it looks good. How far out of town is Albatross? A cab? Also noticed that Sunday is a Taste of Tremont on Professor Street.

glad you'll be going to the R&R Hall of Fame. It's great. If you like Italian food, there is LOTS of great Italian to be found. Enjoy! We really like Cleveland! (and I live in Seattle)

Lori, is this what you are referring to: L'Albatros? http://albatrosbrasserie.com/

I've never been (sigh), but it isn't far at all. A quick cab ride. Taste of Tremont is awesome! I was going to suggest Tremont, but wasn't sure how much cabbing you mind doing. You could hitch a bus into Tremont, I'm sure, but I'm not versed on bus routes. But Tremont is the hippest part of town to check out, in my opinion. If you go, you can try Lolita (Michael Symon's original Lola), shop at Banyan Tree (awesom mod boutique), and other galleries in the area. Also, be sure to check out the Treehouse bar -- great outdoor patio and great brews on tap.

I'd highly recommend Tremont and glad that you are interested in going.

Another suggestion, I know that a bunch of Cleveland places have been referenced on Food Network shows and Anthony Bourdain. Might be worth a google search if you are interested in trying more of Cleveland's noteworthy dining.

Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with. We are going to the game on Sunday!!

Hi, Lori! Tremont is a weird place in Cleveland in that it is an island created by the intersection of various highways. Not a place you can get to easily (or safely) by walking. On the map, it looks close and accessible, but it really isn't by foot. Another one to put on your list for dinner that is over by Blue Point Grille is Crop on West 6th -- the food is great, the atmosphere is lovely.

I haven't eaten at Chinato, but it sounds great. You could always do dinner at one place and dessert/night cap at another. Lola has highly inventive desserts! Check out their menu on line.

Out of your list, I would do Lola, Lolita, or Chinato.

From where you are staying, you can easily walk to East 4th (out your door), the West 6th/West 9th Warehouse District restaurants and bars. To get to Ohio City/West Side Market and Tremont from your hotel, I suggest you cab it.
