Last Minute from NYC

I am looking for a super last minute getaway (like next wednesday). It would be just three days wed to fri. The idea is to get out of NYC. We are willing to fly asuming airfare under $350, or drive up to 3hrs. Ideally its somewhere we can just lay in a pool, have a couple great meals, and maybe do some shopping. Its last minute trip before my only child daughter heads to college. Any and all ideas welcome.

Try Lake George,if you hadn't heard about it already. Stay in Queensbury. Sleep Inn and Country Inn Suites are well situated and reasonably priced and likely available and with the amenities you seek, or you can stay in Lake George, 5 minutes away, and gamble that the popular resort town has good lodging available.

You might also drive up to VT. The Stowe Motel and Snowdrift is reasonably priced and well located. They have a pool and they are nearby fun places such as Ben & Jerry's factory, the Alpine Slide at the Stowe Mountain Resort, and the Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks.

You could travel south to Baltimore. The Inner Harbor is brimming with stuff to do, or you could travel 20 minutes further south and try amazing Annapolis. Both have great shopping and dining.

Cape May is a great town. We liked Angel of The Sea Inn and the Eldredge House.

Fly? How about Chicago? You'll gain an hour going. Fits all your requirements. You don't need a car at the Homewood Suites Downtown. There is a subway at the corner and so much is within walking distance.

Chicago is an option for sure...they have the flagship Urban Outfitters outlet which my daughter could easily spend the entire week in. Annapolis would have been fantastic if we didn't have family down there.

Lake George is always difficult in August - when there's racing at Saratoga. Many people who come up for the racing stay in LG - since they were too late for Saratoga - or are trying to get something better than the sky high rates there.

And the southern part of Lake George is awfully kitschy.

You an see if there are rooms at the inn in the Hudson Valley or Berkshires. As noted it might be tough getting rooms this late, save a cancellation.

I just checked a couple hotels for you in Chicago: the Wyndham Blake, the Wit, the Palmer House, and the Hilton Chicago. The Wyndham Blake has a spa in your room option that sounds divine, and the Palmer House has an unheard of rate of $170 for your first night and $149 for your second night. These hotels are also near the subway. I also see that Spirit Airlines has $336 flights for you dates.

I love Chicago, but I wouldn't pick it as a destination midsummer!

@vabarone Which Urban Outfitters location do you guys consider to be the flagship store in Chicago? When I was in college there was just the one in Lincoln Park on North Clark Street. Now there are 3 or 4 in Chicago proper plus a couple or more outlying mall locations.
