Now you've gone and done it, opened yourself up to the criticism of all those perfect parents out there. (Right Cindy!)
I've seen plenty of people with their children. There are sights for them to see such as some of the hotel attractions and the amusement parks. As I see it, it's your call as the impact that environment will or won't have on them.
I will say that I'm "Vegased" out after about 3 days, so I wouldn't plan to spend much more than 3 nights there. Three full days, four at the most, should give you plenty of time to see the big attractions and take a day trip to the Hoover Dam.

It would help if you said when you plan to visit. If you plan to go from April through Sept. then I would say sure. Some of the hotels have great pool set ups and your days can be spent poolside or at Wet N'Wild. We enjoyed the pool at Flamingo Hilton the best with Monte Carlo's a close second. Both had very reasonable pricing. Go to the arcades at Circus Circus (I know it's run down) and Treasure Island at night. Watch the Volcano erupt at Mirage, the fountains dance at Bellagio and go downtown at night for the light show. Don't go to LV if you are trying to get in gambling. Make it a family trip and it will be one. We had a blast two times with an 8 yr. old.

Hi Nick,
Absolutely go we went with 3 kids ages 5,11,13 at the time and had a great time. We went during their break in Feb so not swimmimg weather, but in addition to all of the things the last post had also go hiking in the red rock canyon it is a beautiful drive and an easy hike. I also agree with four days max. Hope this helps.

We took our 8 & 5 year old in June 2002. They loved it, and are dying to go back this summer. We stayed at Excalibur the first 2 nights and hated it (so did the kids)! Then, we bailed out of that hotel, and moved down to Venetian for the last 2 nights. It was great to have the bigger room and huge bathroom for a family of 4. There is so much to do there with kids, and we had no problems with anything/anyone while walking the strip at night. There was tons of people handing out flyers for strip clubs, ect.... but, not a single person handed one to us (a family). The flyers were also laying all over the ground, but the kids never noticed (I didn't care). You can't shelter your kids forever in a perfect world.....(to all the posters that slam families in Vegas), I'd rather answer their questions honestly and have them experience life.

Nick, since my father lives there and is terrified of flying, we don't see him unless we fly there. I have been taking my kids, one college now and one 6ys now for the last four years. People get sooo upset by this. The truth is that my little one was too young to understand those flyers, or billboards.
What she was not too young for was the dolphin show and zoo at the Mirage, the wonderful educational aquarium at the Mandalay Bay, the beautiful scenery and boat ride on lake Mead, the fun at wet n wild, the petting zoo & train at Bonnyville Ranch or the circus acts at Circus, Circus.
We recently went to NY for a weekend and chose not to take her with us. Now you never hear anyone say not to take kids to NY, but to tell the truth I'm glad we did not. Although she was too young to understand all the risque'billboards in Vegas, I know she would have been upset to see all the homeless, menatlly ill, drunk, handicapped very tragic people sleeping in boxes and begging on the street.
So what if people gamble in Vegas, kids don't even see it. If you are in the casino with a child you are not permitted to even watch let alone play any of the games. Take your kids, outside of Disney, you won't find more things to entertain your children.
P.S., Andy, guess what? There is beer & girls for sale in every major city in
the US. Gambling is also in many, many other cities accross the US. Should parents never travel with their children in fear that they might see an adult behaving badly? Is there a city where they don't? At least the prostitution in Vegas is legal & regulated so for the most part you rarely see (at least not in the hours that children are about), half dressed women hailing down cars like you would in other cities.

On my most recent visit I saw a lot of families but I personally would not expose my kids to LV. It is a bit sanitized but it is still about gambling, prostitution, drinking and vice. You can not escape it. You have to walk through gambling to get to ANYTHING including food, pools etc... You can't escape the way women are exploited...boobs everywhere you look. Nope, not for MY kids.

Our kids were the same age when we took them. Stayed at the Monte Carlo - not the greatest, but well located on the strip. Everyone had a good time. Kids want to go back.
But......what are you going to do with the kids when you and your wife want to play? You won't be comfortable with giving them $20 and sending them to Gameworks. Yes, there's entertainment for all ages in LV, but that doesn't make it a family destination.

We were there 3 days last March with our kids ages 10 & 13. After LV we spent the rest of our trip in AZ. There is plenty to keep you busy for 2 or 3 days without exposing your children to inappropriate activites in LV. We didn't spend any time in casinos or bars and didn't go to risque shows. People handing out fliers on the street didn't hand anything to us when they saw us with kids. No one bothered us and at no time did we feel awkward. Also noone approached or bothered our children and we were always all together.
What we did do was stay at the Mirage, visited the various themed hotels, went to the shark acquarium at Mandalay, the lion habitat at MGM, the dolphin and tiger habitat at Mirage (my kids even spent some time playing catch with the dolphins), watched the dancing fountains at the Bellagio, watched the moving statues and lazer shows at the forum shops at ceasar's palace, went on the Race to Atlantis (virtual reality-type) ride at ceasar (my kids loved this), watched the volcano erupt at the Mirage and watched the Pirate show at TI and took a drive to Hoover dam. We would have spent time at the pool if it had been warm enough. We also got tickets in advance to Mystere which we all really enjoyed. We ate at some diner type places off the strip, the Mirage buffet and the TI buffet (these buffets with kids was very pleasant). We also liked the Italian restaurant in the Forum shops that has 'outdoor' seating near the Piazza Navona-like fountain.
