Las Vegas Vacation

My boyfriend and I are planning a vacation for this coming May. Within the past few years, we went to The Bahamas and St. Martin. We enjoyed both vacations a lot. We've been thinking about planning a trip to Las Vegas for May or another Caribbean Island, but unsure. We do not like to party/club or drink a lot. My biggest apprehension is that there will not be a lot to do at night. Many friends and family of ours have gone before, and recommended it saying there is so much to do. I've also heard Vegas can be better with a group of people. Any thoughts?

Like to breathe cigarette smoke? Then LV is the place for you.

We visit Vegas once a year, for about a week. It's a business trip for us, but we always enjoy Las Vegas. Being with a group can be a lot of fun, yes. We never are lacking for things to do in the evening, and we are not really gamblers. We may play some video poker a couple of times during our stay, but other than that we are not inside any casinos. We enjoy the huge selection of dining options, plus strolling through the various mega-casino hotels just to have a look... people watching is some of the best anywhere.

Agree with simpsonc510 - just strolling the strip, taking in the different themes of the hotels, good dining options, spa stuff (if you like that). There is a lot of partying, drinking, smoking, etc, but they do also try to cater to a luxury crowd, too. A few things we did - hotel pool, Bellagio fountain show, weekend fancy brunch, a show (expensive, but so many options). This time we are going with small kids, so we will definitely be more cognizant of activities in good taste.

We like planning Vegas trips around a concert/show we would like to see. It gives the trip a purpose and there are good acts to choose from frequently.
Vegas is good for three nights.
Our favorite visits have been either mid strip (Flamingo area) or downtown at Golden Nugget (mucho good people watching in Freemont Street Experience at night.)
There's an excellent Mob Musuem dowtown, and the Neon Museum, which I have not seen since it expanded, but it is on the list.

We've used Vegas as a place to fly into to visit the wonderful National and State Parks that are not too far away.

Early on we stayed in Vegas and did day trips to Valley of Fire, Red Rock Canyon, Death Valley, Hoover Dam, etc.

More recently we've stayed in Vegas the first and/or last nights of the trip and done a loop from there. Sometimes from Vegas to Grand Canyon to Antelope Canyon to Bryce then Zion and back to Vegas. Other times to Moab for Arches and Canyonlands as well as other sites along the way.

There are plenty of shows in a variety of price ranges, so night life should not be a problem.

Anything that you could do in the Bahamas in the evening, and more, you can do in Las Vegas (except go to the beach.)
Fine dining, casual dining, buffet dining, broadway-type shows, headliner shows, movies, theatre, art galleries, college sporting events, shop til you drop, cabaret jazz...

Check out what might be on tap at the Smith Center, or at the LV Academy of Performing Arts Center.

What do you do at night in other cities that you don't think you'll be able to do in Las Vegas?
