Las Vegas to Reno on 395

Can anyone tell me what this drive is like? We are thinking of going this way instead of 95 to avoid Las Vegas.

High desert in the shadow of the Eastern Sierra mountains. So beautiful.

Echo that. Very beautiful, but do plan your stops since there are many isolated stretches.

No, just make sure you fill up in towns with gas stations, look at a map and you will be fine. And there are signs that say last gas for xxx miles.

If you leave Las Vegas with a full tank, top off the tank in downtown Tonopah. Take Alt 95 through Yerington to avoid Fallon.

I sure wouldn't drive south on I-15 to Barstow and over 58 to Kramer Junction to get on US 395 north.
Unless there is a dust storm, I'd take 95 north to Tonopah, gas up and take US 6 west to Bishop and then 395 north from there.
