Las Vegas to Grand Canyon in August
Hi
We are planning on driving Las Vegas to Grand Canyon South Rim mid August. Will try to leave LV by 9AM and we will be stopping at the Hoover Dam but won't tour since we will also be going to Page and can see the Glen Canyon Dam.
We plan to take the detour on Rt 66 from Kingman to Siegman with a few stops and lunch.
Thinking the trip will be about 6 hours or so with stops and we will end up reaching GC SR between 3 PM - 4 PM.
Wondering if we will have issues with traffic and or parking going into South Entrance at that time in August.. Does it make sense to drive a little more and go into through the East entrance and stop at the scenic lookouts before getting to Grand Canyon village. We will be heading to Page after GC so will drive this the other way as well.
We will be staying at Thunderbird Lodge so not sure if parking will be issue if we are staying at the lodge. My neighbor just got back from GC and said parking was pretty full on the vacation week.
Thanks!

You probably won't have very long stops anywhere - since it is pretty likely you'll fry whenever you get out of the car. And then the car will be TOTAL oven when you get back in.
So no, I wouldn't stop anywhere except the Dam.

Are you sleeping in LV and then leaving at 9AM? If you are arriving at McCarran the day before just rent the car and drive out to the Hoover Dam Lodge and leave from there at 9AM.
Hoover dam is much different from the Glen Canyon dam.
Drive across Hoover dam to the Arizona side. The second and third parking lots are free after you cross the dam.
The walk up the paved trail to the walkway on the big bridge is worth the time it takes to do. The state line and the apex of the bridge are marked on the walkway.
FYI: Seligman is pronounced se-LIG-man.
