LAS VEGAS NEWBIE - HELP! What to do? Eat? Grand Canyon? HELP!
I will arriving in LV on 3/29 staying at the MGM Grand for 1 week. What are the things that we must do during our stay? We are considering driving to the Grand Canyon. Is that a wise idea or should we take a chartered bus? West Rim? South Rim? North Rim? What shows? Restaurants? We are trying to get the most out of our first visit. How should we pack? We are coming from the Philadelphia area?

Drive to south rim. North rim is closed in March, east rim is not actually in the GC National Park; it's a tourist rip-off with the Skywalk and exhorbitant prices.
You'll enjoy it more if you can stay one night in one of the south rim hotels. If you can't get away for a night then I think I'd rather do a flight-seeing trip rather than hit the east rim.
Restaurants?
Two of the top 20 restaurants in the USA (according to Forbes/Mobil's five star ratings and Michelin's highest rating) are in Vegas, in case you want a high-quality 'foodie' experience. Joel Robuchon's French restaurant is actually in the MGM (as are several other good restaurants) where you are staying, and Alex is in the Wynn (also serving French food). Both are very expensive, but Robuchon's restaurants have received more Michelin awards than any other chef world-wide and either would be a unique dining experience if you like that kind of thing (a lot of people don't).

I would drive (I am not fond of chartered anything) just for the record it is about a 4 hour drive from L.V. Other things to see Valley of Fire, Hoover Dam. A friend of mine recently went to the Grand Canyon and stayed somewhere there he said it was not too expensive ($150, I think) said it was great you may want to do that, at least for one night. Zion National Park is also nice (about 1 ½ from Vegas) not sure if this is something you like. Shows: Mystere and O by cirque de soleil are my favorites.
Hope this helps let me know if you want the name of hotel in Grand Canyon he said it was right next to the rim (BUT I am not sure which).

I would absolutely recommend seeing Cirque Du Soleil's Beatles Love at the Mirage. I haven't seen the new Elvis Cirque show, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be extraordinary.
For lunch (or even dinner), you cannot beat Magiannos, which is located in the Fashion Show Mall. It's a beautiful italian restaurant overlooking the strip towards the Wynn. They serve large, family style portions, and the prices are VERY reasonable for Vegas.

Definitely put Jersey Boys on your list - really fun show with great music. I'd go see Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon too. We really had fun at the Burger Bar, Fleur de Lys, and Olives. And definitely go see the Bellagio Fountains.
