Las Vegas must sees

We have been to Las Vegas many times, but are now planning a trip with friends who have not. We only have two full days and I am trying to compile a list of must sees.

Here is what I have so far:

Drive the strip to get an overview of the architecture.
Take a photo at the Las Vegas sign.

On the strip:
Venetian - entrance, canals, and St. Mark's Square
Bellagio - fountains, chandeliers, conservatory
Caesar's - the forum show
Aladdin - the mall with raining ceiling
Paris - note the Eiffel Tower and Arch of Triumph

Downtown:
Fremont Street experience (evening)
Neon Museum (need timed tickets)

Red Rock (one of our friends wants to hike)

A buffet or two
A couple of shows in the evening

Is there anything important that I need to add to the list?

We are staying off-strip but will have a vehicle.

Also, isn't there a website that has discounts on some Las Vegas shows?

I'd probably take a ride on the High Roller in the evening

Good points on Hoover Dam and Valley of Fire. I've never been to Valley of Fire and will look into it. I don't think we'll have time this time, but I am sure there will be a next time.

One of our friends will be driving on to the Grand Canyon afterwards and I am sure she will stop at Hoover Dam. We have been there on a prior trip.

I am not sure I have the nerve for the High Roller!!

Thanks for the suggestions.

We just got back from Vegas with two teenagers. Had a great time. We all really enjoyed Ka, a Cirque du Soleil show at the MGM Grand. The Mirage volcano and fountains at Bellagio were fun. Also, I liked the Faberge exhibit at Bellagio. Fremont street was fun at night with my teens doing the zip line. We walked up to the Container park and to the pawn shop from the History Channel too. Just to add a few other ideas for you to consider.

you seem like you have a heck of a lot planned. for me, i just enjoy waundering the strip going in where i want. i don't think i'd want an itinerary. 2 or 3 must sees. with only 2 nights, i would drop freemont street. so much to see on the strip for first timers. i'd want to plan about an hour each night at the bellagio fountains. why not drop red rock canyon and do valley of fire instead. then it would be something new for you too. pack a picnic. leave early in the morning and take the freeway out there. spend a couple of hours there, then drive back via hoover dam. we did this and were back in vegas by mid / late afternoon. it also depends when you are going. hiking or even long walks are not enjoyable when it 100 degrees.

I agree with the suggestion that you drop Red Rock Canyon and replace it with Valley of Fire (which is a different and spectacular experience). Also, the Fremont Experience is very low on my list of fun and interesting things to do in Las Vegas.

The only thing you mentioned about your friends is that they want to hike.

Definitely go to Valley of Fire.

Maybe redo the whole trip, skip Vegas and go to Zion National Park.

One of our friends suggested Red Rock. I don't know anything about Valley of Fire and I am going to look it up. The other set of friends suggested the Fremont Experience, so I think we need to make at least a quick foray there.

janisj - when you mentioned the High Roller, I thought it was either the roller coaster on top of NYNY or the one on top of another casino whose name escapes me. Since then, I saw a photo of the actual High Roller. It could be fun. Thanks for mentioning it.

We have gotten tickets for Love and for Barry Manilow for the two evenings.

Saw Love last month -- definitely enjoyable -- not the best Cirq I've ever been to but the music is great.

We just got back. I wish we had had time to go to the Wynn. There's always a next time.

We did drive to Valley of Fire. Wow. It was even better than I had envisioned. Very interesting and beautiful.
