las vegas car rental questions

We're flying into Vegas. Staying at Bellagio. Then, renting car and driving down to Grand Canyon, Sedona, and eventually return car in Phoenix. My question: Any easy way of the procedure to get a car delivered to the Bellagio? We reserved a car through Avis, but they said they won't deliver it. We have to pick it up. We've never been to Vegas, but, need suggestions for getting the car, while dealing with suitcases. We're obviously not familiar with dealing with rental cars and travel. Hope this doesn't sound too stupid!?! Thanks in advance for suggestions.

As you said "we" there is more then one person.

On the day of renting the car, one person goes to the renting place (maybe taking a taxi? Is it at the airport?) then drives back to Bellagio where everybody else is waiting with luggage.

You could always rent from Dollar. They have a desk in the Bellagio itself and you can pick up the car from the parking garage. Alternatively, did you see if Avis would pick you up? Some rental car agencies will pick up customers from their hotels and drive them to the rental agency. I know Dollar does this. Otherwise, Faina's suggestion is best - send one person to get the car and then drive back to the Bellagio.

Where are you picking the car up from?

If it's at the McCarran airport, you better change your reservation to pick the car up from one of the hotels on the strip.

We have hired a car in Las Vegas every time we go there (4 times already); we always do that from a hotel on the strip - for just a few days. We wouldn't hire a car from the airport - not easy to get out of airport to drive to the strip!

"not easy to get out of the airport and drive to the strip" HUH? Are we talking about Las Vegas. What could be easier? Even if you get stuck in traffic on the strip getting to the hotel, you would be in a taxi anyway. Regardless, most of the rental agencies take you by shuttle to their lots which are even closer to the strip. From Dollar's lot we drove about 6 to 8 blocks on a wide deserted street, turned left and went two blocks and we were in the Aladdin parking lot. I understand if you're going to be staying at the Bellagio for a few days before driving not wanting to pick up your car right away and paying for a couple extra days, but otherwise, why would anyone pay $20 or more for a taxi to get to the hotel then get the rental car when you can drive to the hotel and park for free?

Well, since my husband will be about 5 weeks post-op from hernia surgery, and I'm not in the greatest physical shape, we might be best off just renting from Dollar right there at the Bellagio??? I appreciate any and all information you send my way!!! Thanks!!!!

Just change your pickup to the Avis that's across the street from Bellagio in the Aladdin/Planet Hollywood Hotel.
Rates might be higher than at the airport, but the taxes/fees are 10 or 15 percent lower.

There's a Dollar at Bellagio? Dollar has become my company of choice because I'm consistently finding their prices the best. I can't imagine that Avis across the street will match them unless you have some major corporate Avis discount code. I haven't gotten an Avis quote anywhere near Dollar's in ages.

I was in Vegas last week and we rented a car from Dollar, with pickup at the Bellagio.

Don't know if this was an unusual occurrence or it is regularly like that, but we waited in line for 1.5 hours to pick up our car.

The line wasn't huge - there were only 4 people in front of us when we got in line at 9:15 am for a 9:30 am pickup.

The problem appeared to be that there was only one person working the desk and answering the phones. Everytime the phone rang, he stopped helping the person at the counter to help the person on the phone - plus his counter was a mess with papers everywhere and he kept misplacing things.

Everyone in line had reservations, so it should have been a pretty quick process, but it took about 20 minutes for each person to get their car.

It was ridiculous.

She is renting in Las Vegas and returning at PHX --- this could limit her choices of rental car company - though admittedly, I haven't looked into the specifics. It could also impact the price greatly from vendor to vendor. Just a thought.

7 day car rental is usually the same price as 4 or 5 day rental, so you might want to just pick up the car when you arrive in Las Vegas instead of waiting two days. Parking is free.
