Las Vegas - NYNY, JW Marriott, or Hyatt?
I am planning a trip to Las Vegas and AZ/UT in April. Right now, I have a Park Avenue room booked at NYNY for 2 nights, but it wasn't my first choice. All of the other Strip hotels were either too expensive or sold out for the nights I will be there. I am considering switching my reservations to either the J.W. Marriott or the Hyatt Lake Las Vegas. Both of them are cheaper than NYNY. I'm not a big gambler, but I'd like to spend some time looking around in the Strip hotels while I'm there. Would there be parking (I'm renting a car) if I stayed somewhere farther away and drove to the Strip? Which of the hotels do you recommend? Thanks!

You can drive to any of the major hotels and they offer free self parking in their lots. As long as they have a casino (which is 99% of the strip hotels) then the parking is free. Parking at the Bellagio is really pretty easy and convenient.

Parking is NO problem anywhere - every hotel/casino has giant parking buildings. The New York, New York is nice, but at the end of the strip. That's no problem if you don't mind 1) walking or 2) taking the bus or 3) using the monorail. See:
http://www.lvmonorail.com/
You can get a 1-time, 10-ride, 1-day, or 3-day pass and it gets you around quite effectively. All the hotels seem to own each other and there are shuttles than run between them (free). You do NOT need a car in Las Vegas.
The Imperial is in the dead center of the strip and almost ALWAYS has rooms - much cheaper than NY, NY. Try this link:

The Gold Coast, Rio and Palms can be a little cheaper because they are just off the strip - but the shuttle runs to the strip about every 15 min. until (I think) at least 10pm.
Don't miss the Aladdin and Venetian - my favorites for looky-looing at the shops.

Hi.
How much cheaper are the other locations?
I like the service at the JW Marriot, but both of your non-Strip locations are a bit off the Strip and wouldn't qualify in my mind as Las Vegas. As a non-gamer, you would be able to get to the Strip easily and get away to a much more relaxed environment once you get back to your hotel at the Marriott or Hyatt.
I stay at casino hotels since I am a gambler and I know at least part of my bill will be comped. I also like the action and the variety of dining options readily available. You just don't get that at a regular hotel.
If you want to be able to tell people that you stayed in Vegas, keep your reservation at NY-NY (and check the site if you booked through the hotel - the rates may go down).
If you want it to be more of a business trip, stay at the Marriott. I have not been to that Hyatt, but I have had better experiences at JW Marriott hotels than I have at Hyatts.
Take Care,
Mark

If you want to experience "Las Vegas" - stay at NYNY or hunt around for another hotel on the Strip. The other two are not "typical" Las Vegas at all. JW Marriott is in Summerlin, a residential area surrounded by golf courses. It's a nice place, for sure, but definitely not "typical." As far as the Hyatt at Lake Las Vegas - that's so far out of town that most locals never even go there and it's unrealistic to even think you'll want to stay there and then drive to the Strip - IMHO, that is.
Did you try Paris, the Monte Carlo, the Flamingo or TI? These should have decent rates and most even offer AAA discounts, if you're a member. Also, off-Strip hotels like the Gold Coast, Orleans, Rio or Palace Station might be an alternative - they offer shuttles to the Strip and are good values.
