Las Vegas - best pool?
Heading to a conference in Las Vegas in March with kids 12 and 16. We have choices of:
Mandalay Bay (beach pool is supposedly being renovated November - April so the other pool woudl probably be overcrowded), Luxor, Excalibur, New York New York and MGM Grand. Big, fun pool is critical. We have stayed at the Excalibur before, it was fine but would like to try something different if pool is better elsewhere. Any recommendations?

I hear the Tropicana, Flamingo, and Mirage have good pool areas, its hard to compete with Mandalay, though. Check out cheapovegas.com for opinions, and do a search here for lots of other options. There's even a website with pictures of all the pools.

You can check directly the hotel web page for info on the pool I am not sure they would be open yet. We did stay at the Mirage which is not on your list. It has a fabulous pool and grounds. The ambiance is better than any others I had seen. If they are not open in March then it doesn't matter. You are saying it is critical so I would check to be sure the hotel you choose is open.

If it's late March you might have a better chance of having the pool open. I don't think there is a set schedule with most of the hotels, as to whaen they open for pool season. I think it depends on the weather to some extent.

This web site for the Flamingo is specific with open/close dates. Typically Memorial Day pools begin to open. This is pretty general. This states 26 May. I am not sure of the others but as said I am sure the web sites for a specific hotel will tell you as the Flamingo does provide the info.

It looks like MGM would be your best bet. They have 5 pools, they are heated, and open with special hours. New York new york are closed for winter. Luxor might not be open either. New York New York is a great place for teens so I feel. Many activities to keep them interested with the roller coaster etc. I recall a large video room as well but no pool in March.

Unless your kids are penguins, they aren't going to want to swim in Las Vegas in March. But - the Tropicana has a SMALL semi-indoor pool that is heated and should be open. Most of the other pools in town are not heated and will be closed until Memorial Day. Remember what the focus is in Las Vegas - they want you gambling and the pools aren't a big deal to the hotels & casinos. Even in the heat of summer, most of them close at 6 p.m. or so.
