Las Vegas -- Questions about Hotel check-in at airport

I have read many posts which mention the long lines to check in at many Las Vegas hotels. When are the lines at the hotels the longest? We fly in, arriving around 11:30 AM on Tuesday, December 26. Several posters have recommended checking in to your hotel at the airport. How does this work? I booked my room at the Flamingo through Travelocity. Can I still check in at the airport if I booked through Travelocity? Also, is there a mechanism to request such things as nonsmoking, king bed, view and renovated rooms when one checks in at the airport?

I would suggest calling the Flamingo Reservation office at the hotel itself and asking these questions.

Flamingo several times, and have tried checking in at the airport and at the hotel itself. There's a check in desk at the airport right next to the baggage claim area (assuming this hasn't changed in the last couple of months). It's the same as if you were at the hotel itself. If you have checked luggage, one of you could wait for your luggage (which usually takes a while) while the other checks in. You're arriving before official check in time, so they might not be able to give you a room - but it never hurts to ask. Assuming rooms are available, you can request nonsmoking, king bed, etc., at airport checkin.

The line at airport checkin may be short, or it may be long. If the line seems really long, you'll have to decide whether to skip airport check in and go to the hotel instead. I did this once, and got lucky - the hotel check in line was very short. Consider this your first Las Vegas bet!

I can't give you much guidance as to busiest times in December. I usually arrive around 1 pm, but in the months of April and September. At thoses dates/times, airport check in has been pretty busy.

My apologies, I somehow left off the words "I've stayed at the" at the beginning of the above message.

Yes, you can check in at the airport, even if you booked at Travelocity.

Unless you know where the check-in desks are, you will probably miss them. Most passengers come in at the D gates. If so, you will exit the tram and head down an escalator to the baggage claim area. As soon as you get off the escalator, do a 180 and face the escalator. I think Flamingo desk is to the left of the escalator (if you are facing it from the bottom.)

You can go to www.mccarran.com for more info.

We've stayed at the Flamingo. The check in area at the airport is to the right of the escalators along the "back" wall of the baggage claim area, as you get off them - to the left if you are facing the escalators, but I'm not sure why you'd want to do that. Their airport checkin is relatively small room, tastefully marked (i.e., the sign is hard to see). There's more than one hotel check-in area. Try it. If they have a available you can check in. At that time in the morning or right at noon, there may not be many rooms available for check in. If so, go to the hotel, and if you don't want to schlep your bags up to the check in line, store your bags with the friendly staff at the entrance. You might be able to check in, ie get a room assigned, but it might not be ready, so you'll already have your bags stored and ready to be delivered to your room as soon as the room is available. Good luck & have fun!

Thank you for all the suggestions. Somehow, I had it in my mind that checking-in at the hotel would be via computer, that is, no human rep from the hotel.
I am so excited for DH-- is 50 and has never been to Vegas.

I would suspect that at your arrival time, lines will be minimal. That applies to the airport and the Hotel check in itself.

You can do almost any requests at the airport but I would not be concerned either way.

As for the length of lines - who knows. We've seen monster lines at check-in at 1am in the morning, noon, and 5pm in the afternoon. Tuesday the 26th could well be light, but could be the early start of the New Year's crowd. In any event, you'll survive and thrive and have a great time.
