My wife and I plan to attend a wedding in Las Cruces in early July. What would be a fun side-trip from there? (We've never been in N.M. or west Texas).

How long would you like your side trip to last, and what are your interests?
Personally, I would get out of the heat as soon as possible and go up into the mountains or into Carlsbad Caverns.
Lee Ann
Carlsbad Caverns would be a bit of a drive, but it would be well worth it if you can find the time. The Big Room is like a basketball arena underground, its pretty neat. You walk down, and then take an elevator back up 700 feet or so. And, its something like 56 degrees all the time down there, so you can beat the summer heat.
Other than that, you could check out White Sands NM. This is closer to Las Cruces. They have a loop drive, and the white sands make it look like it like piles of snow. People actually go sledding on the sands here. And because the sand is white, the sand is quite cool in the sun.
Roswell comes to mind
I would go to either Carlsbad Caverns and Sitting Bull Falls, or I would go to Riudosa. Actually, I'd do both!
