lake tahoe quaint lodging

We skiied tahoe last February and stayed at Harveys. We are going back--loved the area although we had bad conditions--hoping for better . We want to stay at a more interesting place in So. Tahoe--spa...bed breakfast..150-200 a night is okay for two. We have a car. We don't mind the California side--can drive to casinos. We will drive to Northstar and Squaw since we didn't get there and after reading posts--should go. Embassy Suites is a possibility--better suggestions?

Love Embassy. Have stayed there many times.

Also you could try Black Bear Inn which is on Ski Run Blvd just down from the older gondola area. Its lowest rate is $240 so maybe too high for you. Here's a link:

Driving in winter from South shore to Squaw and Northstar could be really long and difficult because of snow and the possible winter closure of the road around Emerald bay. That means you drive around the east side past Incline for Northstar but then you have to go much further to Squaw. But maybe you know that already.

We've enjoyed our stays at the Inn by the Lake in South Lake Tahoe. The rooms are nice and there is a pool and very pretty bi-level spa. It is right across the street from the lake, so some rooms have lake views.

It is in a nice location and we enjoyed the Dory's Oar for a pub lunch and then a fine dining meal. Have fun! ***kim*** www.innbythelake.com

Make sure to be distinct between Embassy Suites at the gondola and Embassy Vacation Resort on the lake side of the road at Ski Run Blvd. - two different locations and scales of lodging. We once stayed at EVR and had a great room with a jacuzzi tub, kitchenette, fireplace. I've stayed in nicer places, of course, but have nothing but good things to say about EVR.

I know you mentioned So. Tahoe area, but I'm going to go ahead and mention Sunnyside, near Tahoe City, just in case you end up on that side of the lake for another reason. Really nice place for all seasons. Hotel/Restaurant. I completely acknowledge it's not near the ski lifts you mentioned. It's about 9 O'clock on the map of the lake, with Northstar and Squaw at about 1:30 on the map. Great dinner.

If a person is staying South, then there's a great restaurant on the water "in the little retail village" at the end of Ski Run Blvd (near EVR), with the bow of a boat inside the front door - what's the name? Anybody?

Great place. Can you tell that I drive by landmarks?

Have stayed at Sunnyside. It's nice with many rooms with a lake view. It's on the lake side of the road. Close to Homewood Ski Bowl and more convenient to Squaw, Northstar and Incline than south shore. Restaurant is very good for lunch or dinner. Great lake view from the dining room since in Feb I doubt you'd be eating on the fab deck!
