Lake George
I am seeking lodging recommendations for the Lake George area. Plan to spend some time visiting relatives in Saratoga Springs, then head up to the lake for a few days. It will be my wife and I and our nine y/o daughter. Looking for a clean, up to date, hotel or motel. A nice location on the lake would be preferred.
Thanks. Happy July 4th to all.

There are a bunch of small hotels along the Lake in the Village, but I can't help with specific hotel reco's as I only day trip from 'toga myself.
Sagamore will be very expensive, and from what I understand the lodging there is nothing to write home about. The public space, view, pool area are all amazing through, and it's worth a visit if only for a look around.
The "Lodges at Cresthaven" got a plug in a recent article on LG.

The relatively new Hampton Inn on the South side of town is convenient (by car) but not directly on the water.
If you stay non-waterfront there are a number of small beaches that are good for kids - you don't need to go to Million Dollar beach. Beach access at $M beach is free, but you need to pay for parking there.
If you are visiting 'toga on the 4th, be aware there is a 4mi road race and then a parade that shut down Broadway this Saturday starting ~8am or so.

When will you be going?
Thoroughbreds are running at Saratoga from July 24 to Sept 7 and every place in Saratoga - and many places in/near Lake George will be booked long since (many people book a year in advance for favored properties). Further up Lake George there would be a better chance of getting rooms.
If you are planning on going before then - you've left i late for reservations and I would move quickly.
A friend went to the Sagamore a couple of years ago and while it is beautiful they found the food to be sub par - esp given the rates.

The only weekend that really sells out well ahead of time in Saratoga is Travers day - Aug 29. The weekend before will sell out a few weeks ahead. Since you are visiting relatives anyway, the availabilty of rooms is a moot point. If American Pharoah is entered in a race - likely either the Whitney 8/8 or the Travers 8/29, if any, then things will get tighter.
Tuesdays are dark (no racing days), so the town is decidedly quieter those days. Mon-Wed in general are quiter days.
With the # of hotel rooms that have been added closer to Saratoga in the last 5 years the track no longer has as big an impact on Lake George lodging. You are not too late for LG for a few days. If you have a choice, then Sun to Thu will offer you more options than Fri/Sat nights.
