laguna cliffs or coronado island marriott?

My husband and I are trying to plan a trip to California with our 10-month-old in July. We have Marriott points that we would like to use. Should we stay at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott resort or the Coronado Island Marriott Resort? While we'd like to be able to go to the zoo and other sites, we may end up spending a lot of time at the hotel with the baby. Are either of the hotels located on the beach? Any insight or recommendations would be appreciated!

I am not familiar with Laguna Cliffs but the Coronado Marriott is very nice. It used to be the very upscale Le Meridien Hotel before Marriott took it over. I assume that Marriott has retained the charm of Le Meridien. It is located on the bay with a beautiful view of downtown San Diego. There is a beach but its the bay beach. The ocean beach is a few miles away. Coronado is about a 10-15 minute car ride from the zoo. You can take the ferry from Coronado to downtown and Seaport Village. I think you will like this hotel.

Hi, Carolyn. I've stayed at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott, and while it's a nice hotel, I didn't really think it was great. It'a across a road from the ocean. I think from some areas of the hotel you can get a view of the ocean and Dana Point Marina, but it's not on the ocean by any means. Having stayed at many very nice hotels in great locations I would consider this hotel "OK" in comparison to other places I've stayed. I hope that helps.

Hi Carolyn,
I've never visited, but the Laguna Cliffs property is at the end of a huge renovation and "deals" are plentiful right now.

The Laguna Cliffs is in Dana Point...a one to 1 1/2 drive from downtown San Diego...and rush hour (7-9 am and 4-7PM) can add another hour...just so you are aware they are far apart...Theres really not much to do in Dana Point, especially compared to wonderful San Diego!!

Thanks for the info! We have tentatively booked a room at the Coronado Marriott. Apparently they are under renovation until May 2002. I need to do some more research to determine how that might affect our stay. I appreciate your help!
