Lago Mar vs Embassy suites

We are trying to decide if Lago Mar is worth double the price of Embassy Suites in Deerfield Beach. We like to spend most of our vacation actively- biking, swimming, boogie boarding. Which area is better for these activities? Also, probably a dumb question, but what are the waves like on the southeast coast of florida. We live on the jersey shore and are used to really good surfing and boarding waves and would like a similar beach if possible. Our only other Florida trips were to Sanibel- absolutely beautiful, but no surf- and WDW-fake surf. Thanks for your help.

We have never stayed at the Embassy Suites in Deerfield Beach or are we familiar with Deerfield Beach. we have stayed several times at the Lago Mar and really enjoyed it. It is on its own private beach. I am from Jersey and I would say its somewhere in between Sanibel and jersey shore as far as waves.
The Lago Mar has lots of activities, spa, two pools, ocean, really nice walking beach and a very good restaurant. The furniture in the rooms is Tommy Bhamma. we really like the Lago Mar. Try to get an Ocean Front room as they are quite nice and big. It is in Fort Lauderdale which has many shops, restaurants and clubs.

Hi Avalon4
Please check Lago Mar on the website www.tripadvisor.com You will see that it gets very mixed reviews. Also listed on that website are other properties that you may wish to check out. You have to read the feedback notes carefully but we have found them to be very helpful.

We are also from the Jersey shore. The beaches at the places we've visited in Florida are more of the sitting and tanning variety than the surfing. Still, in the wintertime that sun feels good.

We have stayed at both of these hotels, and prefer the Lago Mar.To us the location is better, being closer to dining and shopping. The landscaping is nicer, as are the pools and beach. The rooms are nice.
The Embasssy is nice as well, but the beach is smaller and rockier, and the pool isn't as nice.It is not directly on the beach, but is across from an access road.
That being said, I don't know if I would pay double for Lago Mar. Although it is our favorite hotel in FLL, we usually go in the off season when the rates there are reasonable.
Be careful when reading tripadvisor reviews for Ft. Lauderdale. I find them so inaccurate for this particular city.
I think the waves are about the same at both places, and they are usually not that big.

we stayed at lago mar 2 yrs ago for a week.Beautiful place, but too upscale formal for our taste. Also food, parking which is mostly valet, lounge chairs very expensive. Also its somewhat isolated from most of the action,Las olas, water taxi, etc.Look at marriot harbor beach usually about the same price, more central location.website sunny.org

I have to disagree with Phillyfly. One of the things I like about Lago Mar is the easy and free parking. While I have stayed at, and like the Marriott as well, they charge at least $18/day parking, and the rooms are small.I consistently find the rooms more expensive at the Marriott, and you only get 1 small room in comparison to a 1 BR suite for less money. They charge for lounge chairs on the beach at both places.
