LA to San Fran, a Pacific Coast Highway Road Trip.

Husband and I are young thirty somethings, making the road trip in May. We have 4 days, and are excited about the beautiful landscape CA has to offer, but are also looking forward to must do places to eat, drink (wine!), stay and partake live music & libations! Looking at staying at b&b's or hotels preferably

One night Santa Barbara, one night Cambria, two nights Monterey or Pacific Grove. Wineries are in Paso Robles inland a short distance from Cambria on Hwy 46 and in the Santa Ynez Valley north and inland from Santa Barbara.

4 days, so 3 nights, right? I would spend the 1st night in either Pismo Beach, Avila Beach, or Cambria. Then the 2nd 2 nights in Monterey, Pacific Grove, or Carmel.

So your itinerary could look something like this:

Day 1: Early am departure from LA, stop in Santa Barbara (mission, ocean views, etc.) and the Santa Ynez valley (wine). Overnight somewhere between Pismo Beach and Cambria.

Day 2: Drive through Big Sur to the Monterey Peninsula. Visit Hearst Castle if you like, various state parks through Big Sur, stop off and enjoy the views - do some hiking if you want to do that, check out some galleries in Big Sur, etc. Stay in Monterey, Pacific Grove, or Carmel

Day 3: On the Monterey Peninsula - visit the aquarium, walk or ride the Coastal Recreation Trail, visit the Monterey Historic Park and some of the adobes downtown, wander around Carmel, take a whale watching trip, visit Point Lobos state reserve... plenty of things to choose from.

Day 4: Drive from the Monterey Peninsula to SF, stopping off along the way to see Santa Cruz and redwoods in the SC mountains.
