Best Western by the Sea might fit your budget. Are you looking to stay in La Jolla. Be careful as lots of "La Jolla" hotels are actually several miles from La Jolla on the other side of I-5
A triple room at the Sheraton La Jolla Hotel (which gets a "Great 8.6 rating) can be had for about $175, according to http://search.traveldealsmart.com/
The Sheraton La Jolla often offers attractive pre-paid internet rates, saw a recent rate of $126/night plus tax and parking, for a double room for two nights. It's not in the village, though. Also check the Grande Colonial (right in the village, much spiffier) which offers good internet rates, a little over your price point but close, e.g. $209/night for a village view room with two queen beds, might work for you depending on your dates.
thanks all. b'day girl suggested best western by the sea as well but will check the sheraton as we need 2 rooms for 4 adults and 1 child....
Remember shar that the Sheraton is not in La Jolla.
It is in the University Town Center area. It is near a shopping mall, and Univ of Calif at San Diego (UCSD). There is nothing to "walk" to. You will need to have a car to drive into La Jolla (the village area).
It is better to stay in the village because parking can be difficult and if you are in a hotel in the village you can walk pretty much everywhere.
nanabee thanks for the heads up on the sheraton....
