My husband and I are going to San Diego for 5 days for him to attend a conference at the San Diego Convention Center on May 16th. We plan to stay in La Jolla Fri.-Sun. then Coronado Sun-Wed. It was cheaper to be on the island during the week so we planed it this way.We first found reservations at The Empress Hotel in La Jolla (7766 Fay Ave.) We booked rooms for the weekend. We then have a room booked at the Glorietta Bay Inn in Coronado for the remainder of the trip. I then came across a package at the Estancia La Jolla Hotel for the same price as the Empress Hotel and Glorietta Bay Inn. What is your suggestions. It seems like the Estancia is much nicer. I dont know if its away from everything. Do you recomed we split up our stay as we did. My husband plans to attend the conference for a few hours a day but can skip also. We have a car rented. I can drop him off or I would like to stay someplace where I can get around wihtout a car, or stay on property. Would you recomend we stay in one or the other place, or chang it up. Also any other suggestions are welcome. We are from Louisiana and have never been to San Diego.

I live in San Diego. The Estancia gets very good reviews from other posters here. Its drawback is that it is not within walking distance of anything at all. It's across the road from UCSD and backs on to a very upscale residential area. Actually, you can walk easily to the glider port and watch hang gliding.
Although it's not easy walking distance to much, it's a short drive and the hotel may provide a shuttle to the village area of La Jolla where most restaurants and shops are.
The two hotels you have already booked also get good reviews. Both of them are walking distance to restaurants, shopping and beaches.
I don't think you can go wrong with any of your options. Really, only you can decide how important location is to you.
