Kona coffee
I like Kona coffee but unfortunately the brands I have which are supposed to be pure Kona (at pure prices too!) have been very inconsistent it terms of flavor. I received two bags of Kona from a friend and one was smooth, nutty and what you would expect. The other was bitter and frankly seemed old. Are there any favorites that are consistent with taste and aroma? Thanks, Larry.

Pure kona coffee is sometimes not so pure. I have seen packaging where there was "no" kona coffee, but listed on the package as 100% kona coffee.
In the past the kona coffee growers have been battling that same battle.
Listed below is website for direct purchase of kona coffee. Bayview farms roasts "your" coffee, no more than 24hrs. before shipping. Yes, it is expensive.
Keep the unused in freezer, tightly sealed. That is supposed to assist in keeping the coffee fresh longer.

If you're going to the BI, go to the Holuloa area, and down near the Place of Refuge. Those are the 2 areas where you can find locally sold coffee. Most provide samples so you can see for yourself. I like Bayview and Holualoa Farms the best. You can also get some at the Kona farmers market, but that's chancier.

I toured this farm while on the island of Hawaii and still buy from them. The coffee is the best - especially the peaberry.
