HI, can anyone give me some information on the Koa Kea resort? I'm trying to find out what the beach is like. Can you swim and sunbathe? We like to walk along the beach on our holidays. Are there restaurants close by for breakfast?
I've heard great things about this resort, but can't seem to find much information on the beach.
Thanks!

Koa Kea is on Poipu Beach, which is one of the best beaches in the US.
"The most popular beach on the South Shore is Poipu Beach, which is fronted by Poipu Beach Park, and a few resorts. Poipu Beach was named America's Best Beach by The Travel Channel, ranking top among the 10 "best" beaches selected nationwide. This beach is a series of golden sand crescents, strung together where beach-goers will find snorkeling, swimming, a natural ocean wading pool, boogie-boarding and surfing."

Poipu Beach is really lovely. And if you are looking for a smaller boutique style hotel (versus the mega resort of the Grand Hyatt), this would be a good choice for you.
right on the beach at Poipu.. Not sure about breakfast. Have had dinner at the red salt. very good but very expensive.
Many times for breakfast, especially if we have a great view of the Ocean - we just pick up some fresh fruit the day before - and maybe some of the Hawaiian bread or cereal - and of course, some great Hawaiian coffee and enjoy having it on the lanai while just "marveling" at the wonderful view of Paradise.

If you don't have a fridge in the unit - just buy an inexpensive little styrofoam cooler and put in some ice and you have a nice chiller/place to keep the fruit, milk, juices, beverages, coldcuts, etc.
It also makes for a nice portable snack container when driving around/going to the beach (we will take sushi - which we make over there, etc) and if it's a bit squeaky - just cover it with a towel or two and that usually keeps it quiet.
And while the rule is don't leave valuables in plain sight in a rental car - don't think too many car break ins are caused by having a styrofoam cooler in the back seat - if you didn't lug it to the beach with you.
Of course, you can also just put it in the trunk.
We booked a package through Luxury Link that included breakfast (also a complimentary small bottle of champagne). While we booked ocean view as part of the package, when we arrived, we were able to upgrade to a third floor (only 3 floors) oceanfront room (barely, it was very busy in June & we had to make do with double beds as no oceanfront w/ king was available); my husband was so delighted with this as we had ocean right in front of us. We chose to eat our breakfasts right outside on our balcony table. You can order whatever is available in Red Salt, not just what is on the room service menu, so one day we had eggs benedict, another, the lemon souffle pancakes. My sister said you could order a half portion if you like as well. We also did in-room dining for our last evening there right on our balcony with the torches lit, waves crashing; it was so romantic!
The service at this place is unparalled, better than anywhere else we've stayed (I've heard Four Seasons is pretty remarkable too, but never experienced that!) - starting with the wonderful valets.
The ocean is rocky right in front of the hotel where people were snorkeling, surfing, & boogie boarding. Walk down the beach path to the left & there is beach in front of the Marriot or to the right & beach is in front of the Kiahuna plantation or Sheraton. It isn't the type of beach that you can take a mile walk by the ocean. Not like Polihale beach or Hanalei Bay beach.
