Key West hotels

Key West hotel for my college student-I am looking for something on the beach but suitable for son and friends.

First of all, let me warn you that Key West is not a beach destination. The keys are coral and 99% of the beaches are man-made and tiny. Having said that, Key West is my favorite vacation destination.

So...are you looking for a destination for you and your son and his friends, or just your son and his friends? If it's just for your son and his friends, they'll all need to be at least 21 in order to go in any bars on the island. Key West is VERY strict about that.

As you might expect, since Key West is so tiny, hotels on the water (with or without a beach) are the most expensive. On the bay side are Hyatt Sunset Harbor (timeshare), the Westin, the Ocean Key Resort, the Pier House, the Hyatt Resort and Marina, and the Galleon (timeshare).

If it's only your son and his friends, some of these places might not rent to college students.

On the Atlantic side, they might consider the Southermost Hotel (not directly on the water, but near) or the Sheraton Suites (across the road from the beach). On that side of the island another good choice (though not on the water) is the Best Western Hibiscus.
