Key West for a Memorial Service

I didn't want to tag this as a trip report because it felt frivolous. We traveled to Key West this weekend for a memorial service and ash scattering for my brother in law. He and my inlaws have lived in Ft Lauderdale for close to 30 years, but in all the years of visiting them there this was the first time we've been to Key West.

It poured rain all day Saturday. We chartered a bus to take 30 people from Ft Lauderdale to Key West. It rained for the 4 hour bus ride down and the return trip home, but as soon as we entered Key West and for the 4-5 hours we spent there for his memorial service, sunset ash scattering and following dinner, the sun shone and it was gorgeous. Here are some pictures of the location at the Hyatt and the surrounding water:

Everyone agreed that my BIL had a hand in ensuring the day was perfect. He loved Key West and we sent him off in style.

That worked. Looks like you had a wonderful day.

I scattered my mom's and dad's ashes in their favorite lake in Scotland and it was very similar - a cold overcast day but when we got to the pier to board the small fishing boat the skies cleared and it was really lovely.

Glad it went well for you despite this less-than-ideal weather we have been having. They tell us the sun will actually come out "tomorrow."

We've had some great rises and sets what with all the clouds but for folks who paid thousands to come down to the beach I can fully understand the immense disappointment.

Best wishes to you for now and in the New Year.

and thanks and you too, Dukey. We flew home to Chicago to beautiful sunny weather!

That looks like a fine way to send your BIL off and nice that the sun was out for you. Strangely when I clicked your first link, my own flickr camera roll came up.

Your pictures were lovely.
