I have never been to Key West and I am afraid this hotel location is not the best. But I got reservation there at fairly discunted price so I booked it. Did I make a mistake?

Yes, you made a mistake. The Grand Key Resort is fairly new, but the location is lousy. The nice thing about Key West is that if you stay in Old Town, everything will be within close walking distance. At the Grand Key, NOTHING is close but the airport. I'd advise you to book something else.
If you want to get a clearer idea of the location of the Grand Key Resort, look at the map of the Bone Island Shuttle (bus service). The center of Key West activity - including sunset celebrations, tourist activities and lots of restaurants - is in the upper left corner of the map where the picture of the ship is. Now scroll down and to the far right to see where the Grand Key is. And by the way, the nearby salt ponds are just that...not bodies of water, not lush, just salt ponds. And the water across Roosevelt Road from the Grand Key is not swimmable. Check out the map at
boneislandshuttle.com/map.htm
Thanks, I checked the map, that's true it is exactly the opposite direction where one would want stay in Key West. My only consolation is 140dollars per night, whatever I tried elsewhere was way more expensive or fully booked up. Coming from far away Poland Key West looks horribly expensive anyway.
Zyggie, I agree with Susan. I'd recommend that you try to find another hotel within walking distance of Duval. Spend an extra $20-40 if necessary because the Grand Key will cost you $20-40 a day in cabs to/from Old Town.
When will you be visiting Key West? You're right that it's an expensive vacation destination but in low season it's more reasonable. For a variety of places to stay, check out the Key West Innkeepers' Association at keywestinns.com.
In Key West, location is everything, so be sure to look for something in Old Town. You'll find less expensive places to stay on Roosevelt Road, but it's not a particularly desirable place to stay. Roosevelt is a very busy street filled with strip malls and fast food joints, and like the Grand Key, the hotels on it are a LONG way from the nicest part of the island.
Having said all this, if you simply can't find anyplace other than the Grand Key, don't despair. I'm sure they have a shuttle bus that can take you to the better part of Key West and if they don't, you can rely on the Bone Island Shuttle.
Thanks a lot for all your advice. I am leaving wednsday from Warsaw, Poland to Miami. I sleep there one night and leave for Key West thursday 27th. It is half work, half vacation, work is meeting an American writer who is there at the moment for an interview. I stay there for 4 days, and othe way back I will stay three days in Miami (Mutiny hotel in Coconut Grove district). As for Key West perhaps it could be a good idea in my situation to rent a moped or bike. This should not be costly? I can imagine that with the Double Tree returning there late at night could be possible only with taxi.
If you're an experienced moped rider, by all means rent one. They're a very popular mode of transportation in Key West. But if you're not experienced, I'd strongly advise you to rent a bike. Unfortunately, there are lots of injuries - and even occasional deaths - each year involving tourists who have rented mopeds "for fun."
Have a wonderful trip!!!

Check priceline for a nicer hotel. You may have a better selection. I'd also check reviews on www.biddingfortravel.com. This site will give you the hotel selections for bidding on priceline.
Good Luck!
