Kentucky Derby Shuttle

We are attending the Derby next week, and planning on taking the shuttle from one of the locations to Churchill Downs. The three locations offered this year are, Papa John's at Cardinal Stadium, downtown Louisville, and the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center. Anyone out there have any idea which would be the least crowded? Thank you much!

I cannot say which is "best", per se...

BUT I cannot imagine myself not relying on the Fairgrounds shuttle as I have in the past.

I tend to stay well to the south, and drive-in on Derby morning, and make a beeline to the fairgrounds, and I've been quite content with the shuttles to and from there.

Just knowing what you'll be doing is a giant relief as you contemplate how to navigate the big day.

AF-ter the races the lines to the buses are going to be long, but at least there tend to be a couple of races after the Derby, to at least spread-out the mass exodus a little bit.

It makes for a long, full day, but I have been comfortable arriving at about 9:30 am and getting back to my car at the fairgrounds at 9 or so.

Last year the Derby itself started at 6:51 pm, and the next race was at 7:51, with the last race at 8:25.

I do not know the optimum moment for heading for the bus line to get back to the fairgrounds (though surely it is near-zero as the bell rings to start the Kentucky Derby! - LOL)

Northwest--its helpful that you have already received a good review on the Fairgrounds, and you may have already made your choice based on those comments. Sounds like the best option.

I have only used Downtown, and my advice is to avoid that location at all costs.

Disclaimer: my only Derby experience was 12 years ago. We stayed for the whole card, so it was dark upon arrival back downtown. It was not a comfortable situation making our way to the car in what seemed a sketchy area. Just our experience, others may disagree.

Have a great Derby Day, and don't pass up Bloody Mary's at the Finlandia booth---fingers crossed for good weather !

Jen--apologies for my typo (should be it's) and for confusing your handle with Northwest. That error is especially unforgivable since I, too, am Jen !

Thank you both, great advice. And no worries on the typo.

I think any of the 3 locations would be fine-if you are already downtown or coming from the north, downtown would be most convenient. Both the fairgrounds and Cardinal stadium will also be fine. The Fairgrounds will be easy to access from I-65 from the south.

Enjoy. Tip-stay at least for the next race and let the crowd die down. Right after the Derby is the worst possible time to leave because so many do right at that time.
