It is proving very difficult to find affordable KY Derby lodging (and I'm not surprised, but was hopeful!). I do not need luxury, but would like to be downtown. Does anyone have any ideas on possible avenues to find reasonable room rates for that weekend? I just thought I would give this board a shot - maybe a local or someone has some good information! In advance, thanks!

I am a Louisville resident. Hotels at Derby time are very expensive and scarce. I think it would be best if you emailed me directly rather than using the fodors board. I will do what I can to help.

Please put "Derby" in subject box.
Once again, I am seeking lodging for the Derby. I need a home/place for 16 adults, for Derby weekend. ANY suggestions, ideas, etc. are welcome. Last year, by the way, we stayed at the Inn at Jewish Hospital, and although the rates were extraordinarily high for the weekend (as expected), the Inn was clean, nice and conveniently located to downtown attractions.
Having lived in Louisville prior, unless you have friends there, there is no affordable lodging (or transportation if you have to fly in). I always fly into Cincinnati ($200), rent a car ($20/day) & stay near the airport or downtown (Cincy) if I stay the whole weekend. It is less than an hours drive & will leave you sufficient funds to do more gambling while enjoying the Derby. If you are looking for the Derby experience, I would actually arrive the week prior to hit the 'Dawn @ the Downs', The balloon stuff, etc.
