Kennels on Hilton Head Island

We have just found out that the relative that was to take care of our miniature schnauzer during our vacation cannot take care of him. WE are trying to decide what to do, and are leaning toward taking him with us and boarding him in a kennel at Hilton Head. Does anyone know of a good kennel down there that they have used and have been happy with? He has never been in a kennel before (he is our baby! and we are in hopes of finding a place where we would we could feel OK leaving him. Thank you all so much for your help.

Are you aware that Hawaii has a 30 day quarentine for dogs coming in from the main land? I would suggest finding a kennel at home (try your vet for suggestions) or getting a trusted friend or neighbor to watch him.

I know what it's like to have your pet as your baby. My mini schnauzer is my baby, as well as my service dog. He sleeps in our bed, goes almost every where with us, etc. I hate leaving him when I go on business trips (he's still in training and can't go every where with me yet), I even call to check on him.

If you're in the greater Seattle area, I'd be willing to take care of him.

theladyjess,
Thanks for your reply. We are traveling to Hilton Head, SC from Virginia, so there is no mainland to consider- unless they are issuing a quarentine from SC's "mainland" to Hilton Head We are considering all options like those you suggested, but want to have Plan A,B, C in place just in case. Thanks again.

I live on Hilton Head and understand your problem, I had a min. schnauzer for 14 years and was fortunate to have my parents take care of him whenever I went away. Evergreen Pet Kennel on Dillon Rd offers 3 types of accomodation, prices go up w/ plan. The dog can stay in his own individual room w/ fancy bed and get extra attention, stay in reg. cage and get extra walks/play, or stay in reg. cage. They have a large fenced in back yard for play time. Their # is 843-681-8354 M-F 8:30-5:30, SAT & Sun 9-12. They also have a full time vet on premises. How old is your dog? I would have used them if I had ever needed to board Maxi.

If you have more questions, just ask.

Saltspray,,
Thanks for the great information about the Evergreen Kennel. I will call them tomorrow. Our Max is 3 and is such a wonderful part of our family. I know I am biased, but I think schnauzers are the best dogs. We are going over this weekend to visit a lady who takes your dog into her home and keeps them. Our only concern is that Max hasn't been around a lot of other dogs. She has two of her own and I don't know if he will get spooked and aggressive with them (that isn't his nature but he growled at a couple of dogs when we were walking). Does Evergreen keep them separated when they go out to play? If not, how did your dog do with the others? Again, I can't tell you how much I appreciate all of the help that this forum gives- you all are the best!

You are right, schnauzers are the best dogs in the world. They are very smart and have such great expressions! Of course I'm biased, as Hans is my second schnauzer. Schotzie was my first, he was 14 at his passing. My mom also has a schnauzer, as well as a poodle.

Your Max may have growled at the other dogs because he was protecting you. Hans growls and barks at anyone who passes by. He is very good at protecting his mommy. Hans loves to play with other dogs. His best friend, other than my mom's dogs, is a lab mix.

If you didn't have any luck with Evergreen let me know, there are a few others that I would recomend. When do you plan on visiting? My late schnauzer was named Max also. He was good with other dogs except in his later years he didn't like the larger dogs. You can email me direct: [email protected] please id in the subject, I delete messages I'm not sure of. Hope you enjoy your visit.
