This summer we'll go to Grand Teton/Yellowstone as part of a 4 week vacation. We'll bring our dog and know that these NP's are not a good place for dogs. Does anyone have experience with kennels in or near Yellowstone?

My pup stayed at the kennel at the Grand Canyon and I was curious what the Yellowstone website said. Here's the list from that website -

Another option would be to stay at a pet friendly hotel in Jackson (for Grand Tetons) and Cody or West Yellowstone for Yellowstone. You'd have to check to see if they allow the pups to be in the room unattended (usually crated) but if so you'd be with them at night.

It's far more convenient for you to stay in the park. I'd guess that the kennels listed on the website work hard to keep their names listed there. Enjoy the trip. We went last summer and it's such a gorgeous part of the country!

Looking at the list of towns the kennels are in, these towns are not really close to Yellowstone geyser areas. Gardiner, Montana is near the Mammoth area which will work for a quick day trip of the upper half of the park but it's a long way to Old Faithful and back if you don't want your pet spending the night at the kennel. Jackson, WY is close to the Grand Tetons. All the other towns you would need to board your dog for as long as you wanted to spend time in the parks.

The roads in Yellowstone are not fast driving roads so plan on plenty of time getting places and then plan more time for the buffalo jams. (Buffalo's walking on the road stopping traffic)

You might also want to read the regulations regarding pets in Yellowstone before you come. http://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/pets.htm If you want to do a lot of hiking or walks in the park, you might be better off leaving the dogs with family or friends.

We live in Idaho Falls which is 100 miles south of West Yellowstone and 90 miles from Jackson. Ameripet is a great kennel in our area. Your dog would be well taken care of there.

We are in Italy with our dog and it is so wonderful to have her with us, and fortunatly dogs are allowed everywhere.

Many people just bring their dogs - they're allowed in the campgrounds and parking areas as long as they're leashed. Unfortunately there are no kennels within the park if you are planning on doing long day hikes so you'll have to plan accordingly - maybe post on Craigslist for someone in West Yellowstone to watch your dog for the day; we Montanans love our dogs!

the best way or option I have too. Only a bit long ride to take on.
