I feel like such a girl asking this, because we're such active 'n' dirty travelers, but neither of us twenty-somethings has ever had a massage before and I'm tossing the idea around for our trip in the beginning of June. We're staying in Princeville, so the spa at the Princeville Hotel would be convenient for a nice end of the day massage close to the condo (ooh, post-16 mile kayak trip would be AWESOME!), but the Anara Spa at the Hyatt looks really cool and has a broader range of treatments. (Plus I like the photo of the girl in the flower-lined lava rock shower, does that thing exist?)

Could someone who's been to either or both please discuss? What were the facilities like, how were the treatments, was it clean, were they nice to you, etcetera...

The Hyatt spa is very nice, clean and relaxing. There are lava rock showers. If Princeville has a spa I can't imagine it would be worth the drive to go to the Hyatt. I would guess it is just as nice.

Just one note -- the Princeville Spa is not actually in the hotel itself; it's located upstairs at the Prince Golf Course clubhouse, about a mile or so south of the hotel.

Although I have friends who work there, I have no first-hand massage experience to share. Drat!

Have been to the Anara Spa and it is a very nice facility. One could hang out there (so to speak) all day. They just remodeled it and fluffed it up last year too. Since you will be up at Princeville, it might make a nice day trip down to the south shore to spend a few hours at Poipu Beach, then luxuriate for a few hours at the spa and top it off with a fabulous meal in Poipu or somewhere in between on your way back to P-ville. Isn't life wonderful? Have a great trip.

I go to the Anara Spa evary year when I am on Kauai, and I have to say it is absolutely wonderful. I generally do a mini-day spa package, but you can book whatever treatments you desire. The mini-day package comes with lunch.
The ambiance at the Anara Spa is so relaxing. You are treated wonderfully and they have all of the amenities you could imagine. And, Yes, those lava walled showers do exist and, frankly, they are one of the things I look forward to using every visit. Also they stock wonderful spa body wash and hair products in the showers. Huge fluffy white towels. Yummy.
My favorite spa treatment has to be the Anara Facial. You MUST try this. It is just fantastic, includes an arm and hand massage with lotion and hot mitts for your hands while you get the facial. Treatment rooms are very private and you can see the palm trees and foliage moving through the open windows and hear the quiet music. Lulls you into another space. Also after your treatment, you can sit by the spa pool or try the hot tub. There is also a full service beauty shop if you want your hair done. This is attached to the spa and is where the manicures and pedicures are done. Have had these also and they are wonderful too. Try the fruit smoothies at the spa cafe too. Hope this helps. Haven't been to the Princeville Spa.

If you just want a massage, there are several websites for massueses who will come to your condo. Someone posted here recently that they were a masseuse and gave their web address...happy searching.

Thank you all! I've been comparing them both online but Anara just looks and sounds so wonderful, it seems to be a real "experience" sort of place. Thinking about doing an end of the day treatment with dinner at Tidepools after.
