Kauai or Maui Marriott

We're planning a trip to Hawaii for next July. It's our first time there. We have 5 free nights at a Marriott and must choose between the one on Maui (Kaanapali Beach) and the one on Kauai (Lihue). If you have stayed at either Marriott or know the areas, we'd love to hear your recommendations, advise, suggestions, cautions, etc. Thanks in advance.

Hi! Great minds think alike! I signed on to find out some more info on Kauai as my husband and I are planning a 2nd honeymoon in Kauai this May. We were married 15 years ago and at that time stayed at Maui Marriott. Obviously that was a very long time ago, but our stay was absolutely wonderful - not a single complaint. It is an atrium style resort with balconies along the interior hallways of the rooms overlooking the main lobby. Next door to the Maui Marriott is the Hyatt Regency which at the time was one of the most luxurious hotels and we were allowed free access to their facilities - they have an awesome pool! However, of note is that if you are choosing between Maui and Kauai, I have been told by those who have been to both islands that Kauai is even nicer than Maui. Maui was truly beautiful with many day excursions available to you if you rent a car, and we were seriously considering taking our 2nd honeymoon there; however, noting the old adage 'it's never as good the second time around' we thought maybe we should try not to duplicate our honeymoon, and as I said, we have it from those who should know that Kauai is even nicer than Maui - more typically Hawaiian, lots of quaint villages and very green and lush, while at the same time part of the island is known as the desert of the pacific; two very distinct scenic drives available. Depending on what you are looking for, Maui would have more night life than Kauai which is much more laid back I am told.

Not very up-to-date info I'm afraid, but thought I'd throw my 2 cents in!!! Hope you have a wonderful holiday!

We stayed at the Maui Marriott in 1990 for our 20th anniversary. It was wonderful. I would not hesitate to recommend it.

We've stayed at both properties. The Kauai Mariott is the pre hurricane Weston. More of a high rise hotel. The setting of the Kauai property can't compare to the Maui site. Been to Hawaii 6 times and have stayed at the Maui site 5 of the 6 . We always spend at least a week on Maui during our trips. There is a lot more to do if inclined on Maui but you don't have to. Kauai is more formal. My vote would be Maui.

My dauther and her future husband will be staying and getting married at the The Westin Mau. Thanks for any information I can get.
