Kauai Hikes
I was wondering if anyone could recommend good hikes in kauai. I haven't had the opportunity to hike often, bit of a city girl, but i'm absolutely up for the challeneg. I am in my late twenties and very physically fit. I've read up on the many hikes in Kauai Revealed, but I'm scared off by the "challenging" or "strenuous" hikes. I'm looking for a few that are moderately challenging and a few hours long, with great scenery. I'm not looking to hike all day.
Any help would be great! Thanks.

I would definitely recommend the 1st 2 miles of the Kalalua Trail....great views of the NaPali Coast.
You could either turn around there (for a roundtrip of 4 miles) or continue on (or really make the sidetrip to) the Falls. That whole hike is 8 miles roundtrip but absolutely worth it (IMHO).

There are a number of hikes in Waimea Canyon of various lengths. I don't think any of them are too strenuous. We took, I belive, the canyon trail which took about maybe 2 hours rt. The KR guide describes them pretty well along with approx times.
The Na Pali hike would be good too. I wanted to do that one but it will have to wait until next time.

Sound like the perfect hike for you would be the sleeping giant hike. Its right outside of Kapaa, and you could do it in a few hours. The view from the top of the giant is awesome with a 360 degree view of the east side of Kauai.

We did a nice one up the road to the powerline trail, it's in the Maui Revealed guidebook, can't remember the name. It is off the road out of Kapaa as you head for that end of the powerline trail - the trailhead is on the right just before the road ends at powerline. Just a gentle uphill through beautiful big green trees, go to a bridge & turn around, maybe 4-5 miles total, not steep.

I'm a 52 year old guy and was able to do the 4 mile Na Pali hike mentioned above from Ke'e Beach to Hanakapi'ai Beach. It was tiring, but the views were worth it. My wife and I then lounged on the beach while my 21 year old daughter and her friend did the 2 mile each way hike to the waterfalls. I have also done some Kokee Park (Waimea Canyon) hikes, the Sleeping Giant Hike, the "Jungle Hike" and the Poipu Shoreline Sandstone Hike, all of which afford beautiful views and are described in "Kauai Revealed".
