Will be staying in the Princeville area in May and would love to do a helicopter tour, but it seems most of the operators depart from Lihue. Has anyone taken a tour from a company departing from the small Princeville airport? I would like to avoid driving back to Lihue once I get to the north side of the island.

We used Heli USA out of Princeville. Was a great tour and would highly recommend it. We didn't make reservations until the morning of our tour. Easier to pick a clear day that way. We're going back in 19 days!
Have a great time!
HeliUSA has a great reputation here on Kaua`i -- friendly ground staff, experienced pilots who are knowledgable about the island and the culture, and competitive prices. Check for discounts in the various visitor publications -- both in-flight, and once you arrive here.
Their website has added short onlinw videos of some of the tours they offer (big company -- they tour Vegas, etc., too):

We also did this tour out of Princeville. Husband wanted to hike some of the coast but kids and I wanted the helicopter. Other than my camera giving me trouble, it was a great trip.
We used them a few years ago, 1 pilot + 4passengers, 1 passenger sits in front, 3 in back. Person in the back middleseat has less
view, which some don't mind.
