Kauai Cottages at Barking Sands
Anybody stayed at the Barking Sands Beach Cottages on the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai? They have about 19 cottages, and some of they have been newly renovated. They're on the Western portion of Kauai -- good/bad area to stay? Anybody have any first-hand experience?

Use is restricted -- but the location is full-on beachfront, and the cotttages are definitely a deal:

Auntie, I'm already booked in the new Courtyard - thanks for turning this up on Fodors.
If I can get one of the newly remodeled A/C units, I might go for it. Is it near any towns, restaurants, bar & grills, etc. or will I have to drive a ways to get into the main concentrated areas?

Budman:
The PMRF cottages are waaaaaaay out in the middle of nowhere. Nearest town is Kekaha, which only offers one small grocery store. Next town is Waimea -- 15 minutes drive down the highway -- with larger grocery stores, a Subway sandwich shop, and a good steakhouse (dinner only). Hanapepe/E`ele`ele/Pt. Allen are about 10 minutes beyond Waimea and offer a few more eating spots and small grocery stores.
If you want to "get away from it all", then the PMRF cottages are the place to be (as long as you meet their military/DOD/contractor requirements, as mentioned in my earlier post).
The cottages are on the leeward side of the island -- hot, hot, hot weather most of the year. Beg for the A/C units! 8-)

Once again auntie comes to the rescue. I was thinking, this could be the most magical spot, or another persons nightmare. Way way secluded, way more than Hana! We adore that coast, so a few nights mixed with a few nights on the north shore would be fabulous. We love Barking Sands, and would never even think about visiting the island and not paying our respects to this great place! And Polihale!!!!!!!!
