Kansas City or Lawrence?
Flying into MCI Fri night late to attend a concert in Lawrence Sat night. Better to stay in Kansas City both nights(don't have to move luggage) or Sat night in Lawrence? Concerned about the road travel Saturday after all the snow-not used to. Usually rent a car, or would it be better in cab ($?)
Will it take longer to do the 40 miles than normal? How slippery will streets be?

Yes, rent a car.
You can stay here in Lawrence Saturday night. You won't want to drive clear back to KC.

It's right downtown. Free State Brewery right down the street too..

I agree about the rental car.
Is there any reason not to go to Lawrence on Friday night? It is less than 50 miles and all freeway. You can get there faster than some parts of Kansas City.
Have fun! Lawrence is a nice little town.

The roads are clear and dry as of today. Even after the heavy snow. You will have no trouble driving. Drive on to Lawrence and spend both nights there. Cool town, lots of good eating, drinking, and shopping. After all, it is the home of Kansas University so it offers lots.
