Hello
I will in kansas for five days. Would like to stay near The Plaza. Read reviews posted on The Raphael and Fairmont. Has the Fairmont renovated or improved since taking over? Any other recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
Note: Do no want to stay at big convention hotels, being there, done that.
Thanks in advance

I live in Kansas City and can say that the Fairmont has gotten mixed reviews since taking over from the Ritz--but I love it--we recently had our wedding reception there and several of our out of town guests stayed there--no complaints and everyone liked it. I've only stayed at the Raphael once several years ago, which I enjoyed, too. But if I were staying for 5 nights, I'd pick the FAirmont for better services, etc. I think you probably can't go wrong with either one. My only other suggestion would be to look into the Sheraton Suites on the plaza--its new in the last few years and I've heard good things about it. Good luck!
Hi -- there are lots of good hotels near the Plaza. I've not stayed at either the Fairmont or the Raphael, but I can recommend Sheraton Suites, which is right on the Plaza. It was very nice, with a huge room.
I've stayed at the Raphael twice and love the place. It's virtually all suites, most pretty spacious (for some reason we had a dining table (or conference table) in our living room last time that seated 8 people. And the staff is so helpful and friendly there! Furnishings are nice, not lavish.
I second the vote for the Raphael. Not only are the suites charming and the service good, there is a wonderful little restaurant.
