Kansas City

Hi-

We are going to be staying in kansas City (either Kansas, or Missouri) for a night and would really appreciate some suggestions for NICE, clean hotels in the area. Our budget for the hotel is no more than $130.
Thanks!

If there are just two of you I would suggest using Priceline for a 3 or 4 star. We stay in KC (both MO & KS) all the time and have never paid more than $70. Always a good hotel. If not Priceline then we would need a little more information about the area you want to be in. Geographically, KC area is quite large.

Not knowing anything about you or when you are traveling, it is a hard to say.

The Country Club Plaza is a great area, or if you are younger, perhaps you would like to be near the Power and Light District. My top pick in the Plaza area is outside your budget, but the Hotel Phillips near P&L is very nice and well within your budget.

If you are looking for something romantic, I would go with the Chateau Avalon. It is a boutique hotel with themed rooms near the Legends in Kansas City, Kansas, where there are also many things to do. It is within your budget on a week night, but not on the weekend.

Thanks for the comments. I do know we are going to eat at Oklahoma Joe's for dinner. So maybe a hotel close to that would be great in Kansas City Missouri?

We are coming there for one night in July - my husband and two kids.

Look at the Sheraton in Overland Park, KS. Relatively close to Plaza and Oklahoma Joes (Olathe, KS - location)

I was going to suggest Priceline as well, but it can be tricky with that many people.

Are you planning to go to the "original" OK Joe's (the one in the gas station) or the suburban (Olathe) location?

I would recommend you stay on the Country Club Plaza, which is close to the original (gas station) Oklahoma Joes. There is a Sheraton Suites and a couple MArriott properties right on the Plaza.

If you are going to the Olathe Joes, disregard : )

I agree with kit. CCP is a very fun location for visitors and it is closer to the OK Joes that is the classic original one.

Either the Plaza area or Crown Center would be good areas to stay to visit the original (and very small--be prepared to wait in line) OK Joe's (it's our favorite BBQ place and we live here.)

If you opt for the Plaza area then some good hotel options are (as previously mentioned) the Sheraton, also a Hampton Inn & Suites. On the east side there is a Courtyard by Marriott, and a little further north is an Embassy Suites. The other Marriott is further east and up a hill, on Main Street, and not as easily accessible to the shops and restaurants as the others.

Thanks so much for all the information. I think I am sold on staying in the Plaza area and visiting the original Oklahoma Joe's restaurant. We have never been there so we are really looking forward to visiting both the city and restaurant!

Unless you go at an off time, allow yourself pleanty of time for the wait in line at Oklahoma Joe's.

Definitely stay on the Plaza. It is unique to Kansas City, gorgeous architecture, and a lovely area to walk, shop, dine, etc.
