July weather in the St. Petersburg area
What is the weather like in the Tampa / St. Pete area in early July. I know it will be hot and July is the rainiest month. Are we talking short afternoon showers or prolonged days of rain?

Usually, we're talking torrential downpour with wind, thunder and lightning lasting maybe an hour from start to finish, maybe even less, in the late afternoon/early evening. Unless there's a hurricane, a whole day of rain w/b unusual. And yes, hot and very humid.

It rains a lot - if you live there it's no big deal, but if you are considering a beach vacation it can be a major disruption. Sitting around waiting for the sun to come out is not much fun.

I actually think it's OK for a beach vacation. I remember going inside, taking a shower, reading, taking a nap, and then being ready for either more beach or dinner or some other touristy thing once the storm has blown over. I do agree that the humidity is major!

We lived at MacDill Air Force Base when I was a kid in th 1950's BAC -- before air conditioning.
My father came home at lunch time every day and put on a clean, dry uniform. That is how hot and humid it is! With AC, it should be fine.

Thanks for your replies! Maybe I am weird but I like it hot and humid when I am at the beach. Afternoon showers are ok with me as we will be on the beach in the am and probably will need something to shut us down so we don't turn into lobsters.

I hope you have a great time at the beach hansman, and you are right - when you are at the beach, hot and humid is good. Actually, the heat in Florida in the summer is no worse than anywhere else up the coast as far north as Maryland. Just keep one thing in mind, though, heat is good for a beach vacation, but rain is bad. And there is a reason that summer is the low season in Florida, and that is because it rains quite a bit. As long as that doesn't bother you, you're golden!
