July trip to NY
I am flying into NYC during the first week of July for a family event with my boyfriend and I was wondering if anyone would recommend a three day trip to discover something different outside of NYC. I grew up in NYC and now live in San Diego and don't want to deal with the hustle and bustle of the city this time around.

Just a reminder that if you mean July 1,2,3 etc. there will be no hustle & bustle because most NYers will be away for the 4th of July weekend to the places you're thinking of going!
Despite that, other thoughts besides Howard's-New Hope Pa., NW corner of Connecticut, Jersey shore.

Another vote for Bucks County, the NJ side of the Delaware, Princeton and the Philly area.
What's nice about Bucks County and the surrounding Philly & NJ areas is that it is alot closer than from NYC than the Berkshires. Additionally, you are close to Atlantic City, and the Jersey Shore, which gives you a WIDE range of places to go, things to see & do, in a variety of settings: country, rural, river, ocean, casino, beach, , etc.
