J.P. Getty Museum/Los Angeles Ca.

:My dh and I are going to be in Los Angeles for a short time right after Labor Day.
Want to see the Getty Museum. Is it worth it if we only have 2 - 3 hours to spend there?
If so, what to take in first?
Only going to be there one night in a month long trip so don't want to spend big $$ for a motel, but want clean/safe/comfortable. Do Travel Lodge, Comfort Inn or Days Inn ( All about 3 miles away) fit that bill? Any other suggestions?

I love the Getty musuem and think that with only a couple hours it's worth the visit. The architecture and site itself are spectacular and I think even outshine the art sometimes.

I agree with yestravel. The outdoor areas - the various gardens, and of course the architecture - are, IMO, more interesting than the art inside.

I've taken a couple of the free guided tours @ the Getty - the Garden tour AND the Architecture tour. Both are fantastic.

A fourth aye. Take a picnic or have lunch at one of the restaurants and feast on the view. If you catch a couple of painting or sculptures on the way in or out all the better.

Of the three hotels you mention, my preference is Comfort, Travel and Days in that order. You should check reviews on Trip Advisor. If you can find out the age of the hotel, would also help decide.

I would do it. It's beautiful just being there. Check to see what special exhibits they are showing and then determine what other areas you have time for. Enjoy what you can in the time you have but don't skip it because you don't have more time to spare!

We had THE BEST sandwich in the cafe. Great views from the cafe as well.

Thanks everyone! We will not miss whatever we can fit in.
Seems unanimous! And confirms my resolve to stop there.
