We are a family of 5 with 3 teens. We don't want to split up into two taxis. What is the best way to get from JFK to Radio City Apt? The subway is not an option because of our luggage. Should I book a car service in advance or will it be easy to get a taxi van at the airport without a long wait? We arrive at 2:15 PM on a Friday. Also, we fly out of LAGUARDIA the following week. Should I book a car service in advance? Thanks.

Yes book a car service like Dial 7 in advance.
Definitely book a car service in advance. You're arriving at a fairly busy time, both for traffic and taxis, and there are relatively few larger taxis compared to the entire fleet. Plus, it sounds as if you have a lot of luggage, and not all the taxis can accommodate a lot of bit bags. Going back to LGA, book the same car service if you liked it. You can do that 48 hours in advance.
Either way, you'll likely pay less than the cost of two regular taxis to either airport.
5 people with lots of luggage may require a van, try http://goldentouchtransportation.com/
Check Carmel Car too.
Dial 7 and Carmel are the two largest - and very realaible - car service companies in NYC. When you call them tell the the number of people and the number and size of bags and they wil tell you the type of vehicle you need and the cost. In addition to the quoted cost you will have to pay bridge or tunnel toll and 20% tip (on far not toll).
Have never heard of goldentouch - would be hesitant to use an unknown quantity - since many of these drivers are scam artists.
Goldentouch is legitimate. It's a large and reliable bus company. They provide most of the airport transfers to airline crew.
I have never used this particular company myself because I always considered them to be a "corporate" company like Execucar, but they are now owned by the same company that owns NYC Airporter, the company that operates the shared-van and bus services near Grand Central (once New York Airport Service). There's been a lot of consolidation among these companies over the past few years.
In that case I would check prices with those of Dial 7 and Carmel before making reservations. Be sure to check for discount coupons on the car service websites.
