Which airport will you be leaving from after the game? There are 3 major airports in the NJ/NY metro area (JFK, LGA and EWR) and it could make a big difference on how best to travel from the stadium to the airport.

Regardless, getting out of the stadium after a game is always a hassle, especially if you drive. Consider booking the latest flight possible so you'll have enough time to make the trip.

FYI - lots of hotels not too far from the stadium where you can stay - what's your budget? Every major hotel chain has multiple locations within a 10 mile radius of the stadium.

Hi and thanks for answering!! I would have to fly out of Newark - last flight my way is at 7:00 so I should be able to make it. Would you recommend renting a car or do you know if there is a shuttle to the hotels that are near the stadium? I would prefer to NOT spend a lot of money but I won't cut back where safety and being close to the game/things to do on Saturday. Does that make sense? Thanks!!!

Hotels do not have shuttles to the game. And if you are coming in on Sat and staying at an airport hotel you will need a car then or you will be stuck at the hotel - possibly with no services. The Stadium is in the middle of nowhere - and while there are buses from Manhattan - there won;t be any to the airport - esp on a Sunday evening.

Do not rent a car unless you need it for other travels. It isn't necessary or even desirable to have one to get to the traffic-choked Meadowlands.

You could actually stay at EWR. There's a Marriott within the airport and several hotels nearby. Any hotel shuttle should take you to the AirTrain (in-airport monorail), or, more desirably, directly to the NJTransit Newark Airport rail station (also accessible by AirTrain).

From that station, it's two stops to Secaucus Junction, then an easy change of trains to one bound for the Meadowlands, one stop away. The one-way trip takes from about a half-hour to just shy of an hour, depending on schedule.

Oh, and should you take the train, be sure to buy your tickets from the automated vending machines to avoid the on-board $5 ticketing surcharge. The adult one-way fare from EWR to the "Meadowlands Sports Complex" is $12.25 ($8.50 senior), including the AirTrain off-airport fare.

What will you do with your luggage/bag if any? You won't be able to bring them into the stadium. If you have a car(which may not be the best option for other reasons) at least you can store things in the trunk.

Having a little trouble imagining the timing here. Game is at 1:00. OP says last flight is 7:00 PM. Game will be over around 4:15. OP needs to get to airport, drop off rental car - which will add time - say around 5:45. Clearly there is no time in this to go back to hotel, and not even sure there is time for any plan to work, considering traffic after game. We are talking about less than 2 hours to navigate post-game traffic and get to airport - not reasonable, in my opinion no matter which means of transportation is taken to airport.

Not a chance. Due to traffic after game, returning to hotel to get luggage and time needed at airport, you will not make a 7:00 flight.

Still don't see how it works due to how long it can take to get out of the parking lot. What if the game goes to overtime? Are you willing to leave the game early? Then you would need to return the rental car and get to the airport. Its still too tight.

Assuming game does not go into overtime and ends at 4:15PM it will still take OP about 15 minutes to actually exit the stadium and get to his car in the parking lot where he will sit in traffic for at least 1 to 1.5 hours before getting on to one of the exit ramps./roads that is actually moving. It's another 20 to 30 minutes to the airport (EWR), figure 15 minutes more to return the rental car and get to the line for the TSA checkpoint (this assumes OP has checked in and printed his boarding pass on-line early in the day. Add another 15 to 30 minutes to clear TSA and get to departure gate. That means the earliest he can be at the gate is about 6:15PM (more likely it will be closer to 6:30 or 6:45PM) if everything goes perfectly. However, Murphy's Law of Airports will probably come into play here and it clearly states the shorter amount of time you have the more delays you'll encounter. Op should either book a later fight or plan on leaving the game early.

Trains are not subject to automobile traffic delays.

If the game ends at, say, 4:30, you still have an hour and a half to make the 30-minute-or-so rail trip back to EWR, hop a shuttle back to the hotel (if necessary) to pick up the luggage (call in advance and they'll have it ready for you), and grab another hotel shuttle back to the airport, getting there by 6:00, well ahead of the 7:00 flight. No luggage, then omit the hotel round-trip.

Worst comes to the worst, leave the game a little early. The Jets'll probably blow 'em out anyway.

So, I think I have a plan....head to the JETS game (where I hope bspielman is right and they will blow 'em out) and then either have my friend who is coming with, drive me to Newark or take the train down...no bags to get at the hotel. Is taking the train hard from the stadium to the airport???? I might be the only female on the plan wearing JETS garb....but that's ok, right??

The train from the stadium to the airport is easy. Buy your ticket to the Newark Airport station at the vending machine at the stadium station. Credit cards accepted for the $12.25 adult one-way fare. Take any available train; they all go to Secaucus Junction, one stop away. Then change to either the Northeast Corridor or the Jersey Coast Line two stops to the Newark Airport Station (the intermediate stop is Newark Penn Station). At the Airport station, get the AirTrain to your EWR terminal.

And, yes, wearing Jets attire is fine. Here in Madison, NJ, the whole town is festooned in green; the Jets train in Florham Park, the next town to us.
