Jolie, I haven't been to Crater Lake so can't comment, but the jetboat trip my husband and I took out of Gold Beach, Oregon was great. We saw lots of wildlife, though no bear. The trip included a stop at our choice of casual riverside restaurants for dinner {good, but not wonderful}.

Crater Lake is no doubt beautiful but what you can do there is limited. Hike, drive the Rim and do a boat tour. The lake is down in a crater so there is no beach etc. I'm not putting down a visit to the lake it's just if you have to choose well...the Rogue River is so beautiful I'd sure want to take that jet boat tour!!!

Honestly, I'd bag the Clackamas River trip in favor of seeing Crater Lake. If you want to do white water in Oregon, try the Deshutes or further up the Rogue.

Crater Lake is interesting and the lodge is wonderful but it is true that there isn't much to do. I highly recommend the jet boat tours. If you do choose the jet boats then take the long tour and go all the way up. The white water stuff only gets exciting at the place the other tours turn back. We used Jerry's tours twice and have been pleased both times. It is possible to see lots of wildlife too (we even helped a raft crew whose boat had overturned so we got to be 'heroes'). Dress in layers, the mornings are cool but it can get pretty warm in the afternoon.
Enjoy!

Thanks so much for your replies. They help so much. I am booking two nights at Riverside Inn and booking the Hellgate, thanks so very much. I am really beginning to wonder now about the Clackamas whitewater. As any one done this one?

Thanks
