Jersey Shore in September

Looking for a romantic weekend on the Jersey shore. Upscale B&B a possibility, resoprt style hotel preferred. Walk to beach and/or quaint town a plus. Any ideas?

Try Cape May. Lots of B&B's and great restaurants. Very easy to walk all over the charming town.

Spring Lake and Bay Head are both nice towns with some charming B&Bs. Some of my favourites are:

The Grenville
345 Main Avenue
Bay Head, NJ 08742
732)892-3100
http://www.thegrenville.com/

In addition to being a charming B&B, this hotel has one of the best restaurants in New Jersey.

Bay Head Gables Inn
200 Main Avenue
Bay Head NJ
732-892-9844
http://www.bayheadgables.com/

Website for Bay Head is bayhead.org

Spring Lake has one ocean front B&B which has not yet been mentioned:

The Breakers
1507 Ocean Avenue
Spring Lake
Phone: (732) 449-7700
Fax: (732) 449-0161
breakershotel.com

(The hotel is actually across the street from the ocean.) Website for Spring Lake is springlake.org

There are not a lot of resort hotels in the NJ beach towns. If you are looking for a great water view, but don?t need a beach and price is no object, try the Ritz-Carlton Battery Park in Manhattan. It is down near Ground Zero and most rooms have great views over the harbour and the Verazzano bridge. They have a spa and fitness center. They often offer great weekend rates as well.

The Ritz-Carlton New York, Battery Park
Two West Street
New York, New York 10004
Telephone: (212) 344-0800
Facsimile: (212) 344-3804
www.ritzcarlton.com/hotels/new_york_battery_park

Finally, there is an excellent luxury resort in Greenwich, Connecticut on Long Island Sound. It is called the Delmar Greenwich Harbor Hotel. It is part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, group, take a look at shl.com. Does not have a beach, but has great water views. There are lots of nice restaurants in the area as well.

For excellent seafood in a charming town nearby , go to Rowayton Seafood in Rowayton. They are right on the inlet/harbour with fishing boats all around. Great for lunch or dinner. Check their website at rowaytonseafood.com

Congress Hall in Cape May is a resort-style hotel, with restaurant, bar, music, beautiful rooms, "spa" and a right-on-the-ocean location. It is within walking distance of all of the little shops and the quaint Victorian inns. Definitely upscale.

you might like to check out the Chalfonte in Cape May which is a charming and quirky big-ish landmark hotel from the 19th century. Also the Mainstay fancy b & b. Check on the Internet see what you think.

I've been a frequent guest at The Breakers in Spring Lake for about 15 years now and you can't beat the the location. It's directly across the street from the ocean. I love to sit on the porch and walk along the quiet boardwalk. Third is the main street in town and it's an easy walk to its shops and restaurants. The Breakers also has a restaurant which serves very good food. In the evenings you can sit in the lounge, have a drink and listen to live music.

I think that the Breakers has been renovated and no longer accept transient business. They are selling condo apts now.

Leona, You are thinking of the Essex and Sussex, not the Breakers. By the way, I've not heard good things about the rooms in the Breakers.
